What lies behind such clouded veil denying us the slightest glimpse The stuff of myth and tallest tale the realm of sprites and woodland nymphs For legends old do still prevail of these most other-wordly imps By nature stories of such imps remain obscurred behind that veil and rare indeed one might prevail to catch a momentary glimpse for magic surely guards these nymphs impeding those who'd tell this tale So thus the magic of the tale must equal that of those same imps as well that of the woodland nymphs to lift the corner of the veil affording one that precious glimpse that myths and legend might prevail As well the teller must prevail and in the telling of the tale impart the magic of the glimpse in secret taken from the imps to dissipate the clouded veil that one may walk among those nymphs To those who have not seen these nymphs pray tell why does their myth prevail one may as well dispute the veil as well the teller of the tale as fabrications of some imps and thus abandon hope to glimpse That which belief may let us glimpse the realm of those such as these nymphs the childlike features of the imps of innocence that must prevail lest this shall prove a pointless tale and there be naught behind that veil A glimpse of lore, may it prevail for nymphs might perish should this tale of imps remain behind the veil. |

Hi Moose, What a wonderful write and, as I'm sure you're trying to indicate, this outlook would apply to myths and faith alike. I would agree that the value of beliefs/faith is in it's mystery. Quote: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As well the teller must prevail and in the telling of the tale impart the magic of the glimpse in secret taken from the imps ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes one should understand that the teller of the tale must be believed for the tale to be believed. Quote: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That which belief may let us glimpse the realm of those such as these nymphs the childlike features of the imps of innocence that must prevail lest this shall prove a pointless tale and there be naught behind that veil ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes again I agree. It is the belief in the tale that gives it validity. Quote: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A glimpse of lore, may it prevail for nymphs might perish should this tale of imps remain behind the veil. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now this I do not agree with. To glimpse the lore yes, but to lift the veil to examine and understand the lore's purpose is contrary to the value of faith/mystery that this poem suggests. turtle ![]() |

turtle, On reviewing your comments on this I realize I did you a disservice in my original reply. You obviously spent some careful thought on your review, as I should have on my reply. Normally my focus is more on getting the form to work with what I'm trying to say,the mechanics, so to speak.Subject matter is of course important, and in some cases the underlying philosophy thereof. In this respect, what I was trying to convey was that belief itself afforded the means to "lift the corner of the veil" and allow the seeker a glimpse. I do not believe this runs contrary to the poems theme but indeed tends to strengthen it.As with most writings, all are open to various interpretations, and perhaps I failed to express my theme clearly enough. Thanks for your reply. Doc |
