The kid that lives across the street from Mom and Bones is not well cared for. He runs the street both night and day. He’s skinny, as a bone, just like Bones. One hot day in August, the kid was bitten by a dog. No one bothered about it, no one really cared. The kid got sick, and the police came by and took him to the hospital. He died there in the hospital. They say he died of mad dog disease, rabies. It was a shame, and should not have happened. Bobby |

Thanks dear Passing shadows, Yes, it was very sad. I just read Vikas Swarup's "Slumdog Millionaire" where a similar thing happened to a kid. That brought to mind this poem from my own experience. No, Bones wasn't smart enough to stay away, Bones was just lucky that he didn't mess with the dog. It was all luck. Love Bobby |

Yes, Bones was just lucky. I was "lucky" a few times while growing up, myself. Ida |

Thanks dear Ida, Yes, Bones was lucky. It's a shame that the poor kid that got bit wasn't. Love Bobby |

I'm sure the memory of that tragic event would have stayed with Bones for the rest of his days. ![]() Linda |

Thanks dear Linda, Yes it did. Rabies is an awful way to go. Of course it was even harder on the poor kids family. Love bobby |

Very sad Bobby Realistic is what you make it with this story and that is needed in this case to emphasize the sadness. Never know what's gonna come along and take a poor innocent soul away. Take care Eric |

Thanks Eric, As you say, you never know. This happened fifty plus years ago. At least today, there would be a slim chance of treatment for Rabies if started soon enough. Of course, there wasn't then. The kid was doomed to a horrible death. Bobby |

Very sad indeed. Children usually have no fear of dogs, but in certain cases danger is high! Now probably there is more control of stray dogs and there are less cases of rabies in dogs. You illustrated this sad event very efficaciously, dear Bobby. Love, Margherita |

Thanks dear Margherita, Yes, I think there are less stray dogs around, and most dogs in the city have been vaccinated against rabies. From what I understand most rabies cases now are due to bats. Thanks dear, it wasn't hard to be efficacious. I'll never forget it. Love Bobby |
