Too Many Rules I am only four years old and it is hard you see To understand the things my Mom and Daddy want of me Sometimes it seems like I can’t do a single thing that’s right But they still hug and kiss me when I go to bed at night But how’s a kid to have some fun when they have all these rules? My Daddy says I’m not allowed to use his power tools I know they’re lots of fun with all the buttons and the wires But Daddy is just mad because I drilled his brand new tires Mommy told me I can’t color on my bedroom wall But then she still got mad at me for drawing in the hall Maybe she just doesn’t like the ‘Super Devil Dude’ But painting over all my work I thought was pretty rude I thought I would help Mommy and clean up the living room So I went in the closet and got out her new vacuum But she came in and scolded me then told me I should "scat" Because I tried to vacuum all the hair off of the cat She’s always getting angry when there’s cat hair on the bed I thought I’d get it off the cat so that it wouldn't shed While Mom was busy looking for a place to hide her Hoover I cleaned our wooden table with a can of paint remover Mommy was so happy that I saw a teardrop form She told me to go out and play because the weather’s warm I thought I’d help my Daddy take care of his garden plants I sprayed them with weed killer to help keep away the ants How was I to know that there are different kinds of spray? It might have killed the plants but it sure kept the ants away I picked the biggest pile of tomatoes you have ever seen But Daddy really got upset because they all were green That night my Mom and Daddy tucked me safely into bed They hugged me tight and kissed me very softly on the head And I know that they love me, though sometimes I am a pain I hope that they don’t find the soap that I flushed down the drain |

I came to find this poem because I didn't get a chance to read it the other day. I am so glad that I did. You made me laugh on a night that begs for laughter. Thank you, my friend. Alison |

He he I loved it Steve. Kids will be kids cliche comes to mind but you just have to love them even when they do those things. This great poem shows the forgivness, mercy, and love good parents always get across to thier children. Well done! Eric |

Steve, by your photo, I'd say that you look rather mature for only being 4 years old! What a charming piece of childhood wonder! I adore it! Rules take on a whole new perspective when viewed through the mind and eyes of a child. When I was about 6 years old, my grandfather had a huge tomato garden. One day he asked me to pull all the weeds out of it for him. Being the dutiful little girl that I was, I complied! However, to my grandfather's utter dismay, I had pulled out all the little tomato plants and left the weeds! Thank you, Steve, for another delightful read! Love & Child Light, Linda |

Oh my, there are so many lines in this that gave me both chuckle and an EEK! I can especially relate to the cat hair/vacuum scene, as a neighbor's child did it with one of those hand vacs. Poor kitty!!! |

Yo Steve, This is a very clever and amusing poem on rules. I never did rules. The four kids seemed to know instinctively what to do. I think the seldom used cat-o-nine-tails hanging on the wall had something to do with that. Of course I only whipped the boys, never the girls. Bobby |

Oh! This is a great one about our little ones. A story to tell when they are grown. My son was helping Grandma by pouring a whole bottle of soap in the tub b/c he loved bubbles, also cleaning the tub. Age about 3. Look at all the fun you are going to have as they grow older. Good one. Hugs BonBon |
