Like Bath-Water - by Ryan Schellenberg My mind smelled of antiseptic roses and chewed-up gummy worms Cherry-flavored spoonful overdoses and bike-ride locust-swarms Afternoons in a golden sun where bodies grew by years Leaves fell one by one and prayers of faith swallowed all my fears Soon after though, I felt it grow like a tree rooted in my chest If I thought I’d reap what I had sown I would’ve tried better, I would’ve been best But now I cloud of cigarettes and dirty dancers stolen children’s toys Malignant cancers I’ve lost those friends with familiar voices Stop! They’ve taken something small from my large and heaping stack Of things that I’ve held close I’m not quite sure what it was, but I need it back to change the way my life goes I fear that the way the water feels is surely the way it is Was yesteryear, or is this one real? I want back the things I thought I’d never miss |

How true your poem is, so often we want back what we so easily left behind...although we can never again have yesterday, the memories will forever remain. ~Raven~ |
