I built this cage in which I lived It was the place that I called home I often wondered if I could Dismantle it and go Created from a family A wife, daughter, and son With tools found in my heart and mind As I cared for each as one I gave the lock to loved ones Myself, I kept the key As time went by, I realized I may be forced to leave But the key I held was fragile And the lock was shared by few Unlocking it could cause great pain And crack the key in two I see the gate, it's open now It's time to leave my lair Without a cry to pin me down I fly into the air It came upon a cold Sunday When one would feel no pain She stole the key and to my surprise The lock was now open But it was not to be a solo flight As towards me flew another Together we'll both begin our lives Without a wife and caring mother Because our needs were less important Than her personal desires So, she will be much better off Alone within those wires And she'll stay perched contently As she slowly grays with age Ignorant of what was lost Inside her broken cage |

This has a beautiful but ominous feel to it, softly suggesting few have a willingness to release themselves from every form of earthly cage. I wasn't sure if the remaining caged spirit was personal, or metaphorical. Not being Christian, I may not be understanding all the Christ/spirit/sacrificial implications you might be intending here. It's an interesting write, but I think if you registered as a poet, maybe made JesusChristPose the title of this post, post it in Open forum, rather than JCP as your posting name, you would get more readings.
