i was at the gym today [i just got home] and i ran into three people i knew from high school. i had a very good chat with the first two and will probably be getting toghether with them. ![]() however, brenna and i started talking while on the elipticals and she said something that really threw me aback. i found out that her dad was in the hospital. it just sort of snaked it's way into the coversation [because of my job, i work at the same one he's in] and so i asked why. he has pancreatic cancer. i asked her if he would be ok, and she couldn't even give me a clear answer. :: sigh :: i'm in complete shock. i don't know what to say or think or whatnot. her little brother is still in junior high. oh i don't even know what to think. ![]() we've known eachother for years, however we were never really that close. just always on a good note with eachother. ... /jen/ i'm so bitterly disappointed. betty, i think it's time you leave now. there isn't much you can say or do but offer your time and ear if she needs someone to talk to. Pancreatic cancer is not easily cured, if it can be at all...I have had two friends slightly older than me pass away within 6 months of the diagnosis. Sometimes even opening up to explore causes it to spread faster so many times, they just can't do anything but make the patient comfortable. It's hard when you are young to experience this, but we all go through it just at different stages of our lives. Think of the good times with her and just be there as a friend. hugssss M |

Just drop her a line or write her a note, let her know you're there for her, and then be there when she goes through the hurt and the anger. If you had met her father a few times, visit him at the hospital. Your friend will remember these kindnesses and they will keep her from feeling alone. Meanwhile, we'll add the family to our prayer chain... |

Jen...I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's dad. It certainly is a shock when things like that happen to people we know and care about. It's a very helpless feeling, as well, to not be able to do much, but as the others have said, you can help just by being a friend. I hope that your nephew is ok. Head injuries are a scary thing, and I know how much you love him. Let us know how he's doing, okay? He and your family, as well as your friend's family will be in my thoughts and prayers. If you want/need to talk, you know I'm here. Big hugs to you, Jen. Take care of you. ~Vicky [This message has been edited by vlraynes (11-15-2002 12:07 AM).] |

Jen? Continue, if you can, to give your friend support. She (her dad, and her whole family)is undergoing something, no one should have to. Pancreatic, is a very evil and aggessive cancer. Two people dear to me have succumbed to it. Yet, there is always hope. Ed |
