Alright I need some advice as I can't stop thinking about this problem i have and could do with any advice you guys can come up with, here goes, Earlier in the summer me and two of my best friends all went on holiday together, just to get away after the exams and relax, everything was fine for like two days and then one of the girls i was with started acting really strangly, she didn't want to go outside, just wanted to stay in bed and not talk to us or watch the television, we put up with this for a few days but after asking her again and again to come out with us me and my other friend just had to get out, we were only gone for about an hour, she had told us we could go, but when we got back she was hysterical, I have never seen anyway cry like that before I mean rocking backwards and forwards, shouting abuse at us, and not just normal abuse either, really weird stuff, even bits of bible passages, telling us that we should kill ourselves and that she just wanted to end things. We tryed to talk to her but she ran out of the apartment, we eventully found her sitting down in the street, she was still crying. We had to book her a train home the next day because we couldn't deal with her, at three in the morning the night before she left she just started screaming, we went into her room and she just started talking to me as if nothing had happened and then went back to sleep. She woke up in the morning and ignored us until her taxi came to take her to the station. We are all home now and i havent returned her calls yet but am so worried about her, i know she cuts herself and i really think she may be suicidal, as far as I know I am the only one who knows she does this and although I really don't want to see this girl again I don't want to abandon her in case it pushes her over the edge, or should I tell her parents what she has been doing and the way she has acted, I don't know what to do, if she does something to herself I will never forgive myself, I think she may have some kind of mental condition, I just don't know what to do, I don't want to do something that will do more harm than good, anyway I would welcome any advice, thankyou Anya [This message has been edited by anya (09-02-2002 10:00 AM).] |

In your own question, you wrote "tell her parents what she has been doing and the way she has acted". If I were this girl's mother, I would want a friend of my daughter to come to me. Good luck. |

Would you tell her parents if she fractured her leg is three places? Your friend has a medical condition, one far more serious than a broken leg. Her parents NEED to know. |

Yes, I agree with Ron and Karilea....The best thing you could ever do for her is tell her parents...She has problems that need to be addressed with people that should be in her life...even if she has not been able to confide in them. Your concern is sincere, however...you are not in the picture where you can do any more than just as they have recommended. If I were her parent, I would want to know. |

yeah I would have told her parents before but this girl and her parents really don't get on at all, she spends minimal time at home, she stays at her boyfriends alot so I'm not really sure what they can do and I was afraid that them finding out and the arguments that follow might push her over the edge or that she might leave home altogether which i am sure would be a huge mistake, oh well I don't really have a choice i have to do something and telling her mum is the only thing that I can come up with, thats going to be one hell of an akward conversation |

anya, Reading this was like watching my cousin go through this all over again. She did the exact same thing, even down to the Bible scripture. Two days before this happened she was extremely high on life, which I thought was out of character for her as well. Then she fell into a depression, then began to act as though she was possessed. It was and is very scary. It turns out she is very ill, mentally. After getting her medical attention and medications, she is doing much better. With out medications, she is not her self and goes through these same episodes. I won’t go into more detail, unless you would like to talk more about it. If that is the case, please e-mail me. I would HIGHLY recommend that you contact her parents as this is a very serious problem, and it’s nothing to ignore or hope that it will go away. It won’t. Tell her parents, if not her parents, any other family member. PLEASE don't let this go!Trust me, I've seen it first hand. Ignoring this condition is worse than getting help for her. Push her over the edge if that's what it takes. At least there will be professionals there to help her back up. I hope and pray it all works out for the best. thankyou, I kind of took the cowards way out and wrote them a letter rather than going round there but since I have got a phone call from her mother and I think she is going to try and get my friend some help, she didn't really say much, oh well I have done all I can do and am going to stop worrying about it all the time, |
