This latest case, of a 5 year old taken from the front of her apartment in a California neighborhood and today found murdered, feels like the last straw with my hysteria. I feel like no more chldren can be stolen and hurt. What can be done about this? Apparently it is not being done, whatever it is, as this is becoming an almost common news item. As the Grandmother of 3 little girls,I feel sick with the worries that run through my mind. I pray this will end soon, but in the meantime, how to cope with it. And how to protect my dear ones. I am starting to think something drastic has to be done, implant everyone with some chip that won't let them commit violence. ..I don't know. Something. Anything. I would willingly cooperate with any program that was in use, and I am usually very anti establishment. But I cannot believe this can just go on and on. Little girls snatched out of their beds, their front yards, over and over. This is just a need to share these feelings, I know no one has an answer. But God help us, and bless that poor little girl and her family. Sandra [This message has been edited by catalinamoon (07-17-2002 08:51 PM).] |

I wish there was an easy answer. If I was a mother of young kids today, I'd probably quit my job and stay awake all day and night to watch them...what can we do? That's the scary thing....we can't really watch them all that time. If these people are on the loose because of lax/loose laws or prison terms then THAT is a good place to start. |

As the deVine Poet said...sigh. "no easy answers..." Raising children. sigh...Imagine your heart on those little toddler legs, just walking around, falling down, bumping into stuff. And then they grow older and RUN...WITH SCISSORS!!! I am trying to raise mine with a healthy skepticism (which they use on ME quite often too)..and tried to temper that with trust of love. (Gratefully, they use that on me TOO. ![]() What frightens me, almost as much, but not quite, is that these child predators? ARE OBVIOUSLY SOMEONE'S CHILD... I think that there are no real answers. There is no "one-size-fits-all" solution. But as I step back a bit for focus, I think that it's more about individual responsibility--to reach every day for personal best, and to be aware of our lives and loved ones. Easier typed than done. ![]() It's a bad coin toss. Keep your children safe or teach them fear... I am curious, if anyone knows a way, to become/teach "awareness" of danger, without inflicting trauma???? |

I'd like the answer to that last question, too. This is so hard for me as I don't have full responsibility of these girls. They are with me a few days a week, and I make sure they are safe. But at home, they run outside more on their own. And I am worrying myself sick. Sigh. Where is that happiness and innocence of childhood. I see no way to pass that to them, cause it seems to be gone. ![]() Sandra |
