About 18 months ago, I sent a couple of poems to a poetry site.. (name familiar to many of us) ... After all of their literature and reading a few things....I became aware in my mind that their sole interest in me...was trying to sell something...Value of poetry was second to that, if that high... So, recently I sent in another poem.....just to see what kind of response I would get...To see if the same game was being played... Well, sure enough.... First...they wanted to put my poem into an Anthology. And offered my own copy for $49.50 or thereabouts.... Then...came the kicker....I get this notification that I have been selected to receive their International Poet of Merit Silver Award Bowl and get to read my poem to everyone there.....at the Summer Convention in August.... (that was what the Email I received said)...though the letter I received did not directly say I was to be awarded it.... Yeah Right......Sure I will.... Anywhooo.....I will not fall prey to this...I do feel it is a ploy to get money and has little to do with poetic excellence or accomplishment... Anyone else gotten one of these invitations? Me too Barry. Same exact thing. Twice, cause I submitted 2 poems before I figured out the scam. I did not however, attend the"convention", or buy the anthology. It's annoying,isn't it, when you really think you have some writing that deserves publishing, and this is the only kind of feedback you get? (Only kind I get, anyway) Sandra |

Sandra, thanx for getting back to me...One of my friends also received something similar about three months ago....she was very very excited about it....It devastated me, because I knew the truth...and it was very difficult for me to break the reality to her. She felt as used as I did after my first announcement of becoming a finalist, blah blah, blah blah.... Even overheard a teenager saying the same thing at church once....I didn't have the heart to say anything to her.... PoetD....That is a pretty good plan for the use of the paper....I might use it for something very similar.... |

Uhhhh...Sun.. I have the shredder, but the chunks that come out are pretty big....Me thinks would have to be a pretty big cat too? Hmmmmm...maybe I can send them the cat? Whatcha think? Let a Tiger accept the award for me....????? |

Kit, other than the crash from the fall of realizing that I was being taken, and the awful taste in my mouth from the bitterness I felt toward the scam that tried hard to take me.....I learned a lot and fortunately have never given them a dime....All of their postage at their, or I should say, other poets expense...is the only monetary exchange.... I wanted others to see this again...It is so easy to feel your dream is being made to come true and wanting to leap for that pot of gold... |

I got this invitation the first time that I started posting on the old site and then they came to the resident poet's page and pick out one of my pieces from there and sent me a letter telling me that they wanted to use it and that I would have to BUY the book to see it. Then I got the award notice letter over and over again. I never took the invitation. I never told them that they could use my poetry and I never got an award. I was hoping that if I got awarded it would be before they start charging me for the book. I was rather insulted that they tryed to take advantage of my intelligence. They are the worse ripe off artists that I have ever met and I just wish that they would stop bothering me. It is like they have never had a piece as good as mine or like they couldn't get anything better. They tryed really hard to make me feel special, but I feel more special right here at this site with my netpoet family that won't take advantage of me. *more ranting and ranting* Sorry about that. I just get angry to hear about other people that had to deal with this company. They are worthless and should stop trying to exploit good poets. That is what makes people not want to write and share with others. I did though write a letter to the better business bureau in hopes that there is something that they can do about them. Giving good writers pipe dreams is horrible. Thank you. By the way, I'm a rather large cat type person. lol.. Send me and I will take care of them.. the very same thing happened to me also barry! They kept sending notices in the mail informing me that my poem was going to be published in a book but i went to my public library and no such book existed. they are scammers just trying to sucker us in to buying a 50.00 book |

Joanna, That is correct....they talk about this very beautiful hardbound book that your poem will be included in....and how it will be seen by so many people... BUT, I seriously doubt that you will ever find even ONE of their hardbound anthologies in any public library or large bookstore in any city of any country.... I once found the anthology on the internet, (one that one of my poems was to be included in) by going to their website and opening up the anthology.....I looked at page after page of poems that were a definite eye opener. I found so many that were very crude, made little or no sense....were not appealing at all...and that certainly cheapened the artistic value of my own poem, knowing that it was going to be included with all of the others...that it was not considered to be any better than so many of the rest that were very poorly written and crude... And they offer to publish you, IF you spring for the right amount of cash....What a crock.... Wouldn't that be great....spend a couple hundred dollars just so you can be published....by some agency that could care less about the quality of your poetry?? I don't think so....And I want everyone to realize that being published is not as simple as counting to three...NOT if you want to do it right and get the proper publicity and viewing of your work... |

Ditto. I have gotten the same junk from the same people. At first I thought they were honest till other people told me they had gotten the same offer as you & I. I will never visit their site again, all they are worried about is selling books & making money. Thanks for letting me blow off steam. Paul |

I've not had this happen, though, I don't venture out of PIP much. These other sites scare me, because of what I have heard from others. And this is a perfect example of that. It's really too bad that they do this. I am grateful for Passions, and the way it works!  I'm sorry this has happened to you Magnus, and to all the others .... Maybe someone from this site needs a poke in the eye from Irie ~Sheri |
