deVine,
(Interesting name, an ancestral one for me. Ooops, giving away clues here.)
Hmmmm.
Well, after I've written a poem that works, ya, free would be it.  It lasts a while. Rarely elsewise, tho, too much clutter, too many lives to lead, too many monkeys on the back.

There are certain times I do and there are other times that
I feel VERY FAR from it!
It seems that the only time I REALLY feel free is when I'm riding
my dirt bike. Go figure.
Great question Sharon

Does the internet provide a freedom that we didn't have before?

The internet gives us the freedom to communicate with people from all corners of the world whenever we choose essentially "free of charge"... that feels like a new freedom to me..

I guess I could call the internet access a "freedom", but as I think of it, I'm not quite sure what I am free of or free from.  Maybe free to be a less physical personality, without all the prejudice that goes with that.  Maybe free to reinvent myself.  Maybe just free of baggage.  This is close to a new plane of existence, no?  (Well, at least in one's head.)
But I have to disagree with you, Nan, it is not free of charge.  Think of all the resources it takes to build and support such a system.  These are the hidden costs that this society never wants to see or acknowledge.  "Ignore it and it will go away."

No.  No.  No.

The internet, or a spoon full of junk, or a pipe full of crack or even a ring full of keys--cannot give us freedom...nor will the perfect house, with the perfect kids, and 2.5 mercedes in the driveway....

Before she passed on, someone asked "Mother Theresa" when she would take a vacation? and her reply was "every day is a vacation..."

She died FREE....

Hmm well as I sit here eating a Belgian Truffle given to me by my fave guy I ponder this question posted by Miss DeVine. I was, over my holidays in England, taken to a new experience...a Pantomime! In that show (Aladdin) which starred Jon Inman of the "Are You Being Served?" British television series...Jon Inman kept asking "Are You Free?!?!?" and the audience was supposed to reply, in Pantomime fashion..."I'M FREE!!!". Well on my trip over there I not only discovered who I was inside, I became free. So yeah, Sharon...I'M FREE! Finally.

Am I free? Interesting question. Not simple either. Depending on my mood, I feel like Irie, in that I feel free occationally, but other times I feel totally restricted and... well, not free. But most of the time I feel like Dopey Dope. NO, I am NOT free!

To be free or not to be free?  That is the question.  We are all free.  The freedom of choice.  We can choose to do anything or be anything.

No, there is part of me that is not free.

But only I can release her, no one else.

No, I'm not free.
There is a deep dark part of my heart that won't let me be free. No, maybe it's just my mind holds me hostage. If I could erase the years of childhood maybe I'd be free.

Interesting question. No, I don't feel free a lot of the time, though I think I am moving in that direction.  I do believe a lot of the chains are of my own making.  In general, I am far more concerned about the shoulds and shalt nots that restrict my life than anyone else around me is.
