First of all my name is Tasha.- I just started getting envolved in this passion poetery site- and let me tell you, I LOVE IT! (moving on) UNSPEAKABLES Sometimes it is so hard for me to find words to express how I feel. When I write it's as though I am grasping for words, any words- yet none seem to truly express how deeply I feel. Sometimes a window in my soul opens and if a seize that moment the words are there and they are beautiful- SO I ask a question,(as writers)- How do you keep the window open? Tasha |

ROFL@Brick What a super question Tasha.... ![]() I don't write as much these days but then that's because I have to feel really strongly about something in order for the words to flow and then I don't think I have a choice, whatever I feel just writes itself... ![]() Hope that helps and welcome aboard.. ![]() HUGS< !signature--> "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Tasha....Welcome to Passions! You have asked the ultimate writer's question. If you are writing deep, moving, poetry I don't think you can keep the window open. It is either open or closed depending upon your specific mood swing at the time. Relatively speaking, it is much easier to do if you are working on something light or humorous. As far as the very emotional writing goes, I have never found a better definition of poetry than that expressed below. Regards. Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility. -William Wordsworth- |

I agree with RainbowGirl, this question is great! We are all different and as such our windows stay open longer or shorter periods. And there are some with a window that seems to be forever nailed OPEN! I think the best thing to do to keep the 'air flow' is to read, listen, think and allow life to flow around you. I get inspiration from various sources therefore, I never know which way the wind will blow into my window...and right now, the breeze is pretty quiet! ![]() Welcome to the family by the way! ![]() |

At the risk of mixing our metaphors, I think your window is opened by a mental muscle - and like all muscles, grows stronger with use. Unfortunately, to extend my metaphor, there isn't a muscle in the human body that doesn't have a countering muscle, the pull to every push, and I guess mental muscles are the same. For me, I find the muscle that opens the window often has to fight against the muscle seeking perfection. If I put too much thought into how "good" something is going to be before I write, well darn, I never seem to get it written. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go find some Ben-Gay. ![]() |

Well for me the things that keep my window open is beauty, nature, love, my infernal unquietable imagination! Art, gardens, nature, nature, nature LOL Oh and time, I have to have solitude to write, I can't write well if the TV is blasting and hubby is grumbling... LOL ![]() Good question! ~Heather oh and...WELCOMEEEEEEE!!!!!! |

Even the best writers get blocked and the worst are sometimes inspired, in between are most of us. Jamie Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. - Virgil. "Yield thou not to adversity, but press on the more bravely". |

I keep it open by every day just jotting down anything that comes into my head. I do this every day for about half an hour then at the end of a week or whenever i can find time i put these ramblings together and try to make a poem from them.. most of the stuff I have written has come from something I am passionate (hehe) about or something that I've experienced in my life. like epoet, i carry pen and paper with me all the time (well, i try to... sometimes i mess up and forget to bring paper... see my napkin notes below)... every day someone says something that i hear some deeper significance in... some word or phrase... every day, i see signs on the highway or read something in the newspaper or hear a song or discussion on the radio and some phrase or word sticks out as significant to me in some metaphorical way... there's a deeper underlying meaning and i might not even know what it is at the time... so... i write it down... to me, it's all about taking notes... people at work, my family... probably people in the grocery store... LOL... all think i'm nuts because i just stop in the middle of what i'm doing and write things down... many times, the notes i take are titles yet to be written... i have unorganized (unfortunately) stacks of little pieces of paper that with my notes... a little notebook i carry... i even write on napkins or brown paper bags if i can't find anything else to write on... then the work comes of putting it all together... assembling the notes, analyzing why i thought that word or phrase was important... so, that's how i keep my "window" open and exercise my muse so that she is always feeding me material... of course, there are often blank days... days when i can't write at all.... days when nothing seems significant... LOL... but i've written about that, too hope that helps even in some small way ![]() [This message has been edited by doreen peri (edited 08-06-2000).] |

Welcome to Passions Tasha! Boy, you can tell from above, that everyone has different ways they deal with this. For me ... poetry is a picture, just as real as a painting on canvas. It's very visual to me ... without the images in my mind, I cannot begin. I don't write daily, but when I do write, it's because an image just won't leave my mind. Sometimes it's simply the vision of my mother's smile, or a sad child, or a puppy in a pet store window ... once the image is there, the story seems to flow with more pictures ... and words just somehow seem to find their way out all on their own. ![]() [This message has been edited by Kit McCallum (edited 08-07-2000).] |

Let the words become you, become every inch of your being. Do not concern your self with the words , for they will come out. I write because I need to, for the way the world comes to me, I just let it in to my being and let it flow over me, the words come out and onto paper before I realize it. The more you concern yourself with what words to use , or strain your self with a certain style, you at that time close the window. Just be free............ and welcome....
