just married

having been responsible
in my day
for an attrocity or two
I can now comfortably lean back
and recall with the expected inaccuracy
the events leading up to my inevitable
suicide
this marriage
between man, and what we generally come to regard as
woman
took place between the fallen arches of San Felipe
deep inside the swollen belly of america's Mexico
with little protection
from the elements of mid February
or the predictions of those better informed
than I
for we knew each other only in passing
it was true, her hair shone like ravens claws
like a fountain of midnight
yet, however fruituous I found that to be
it did not negate the fact
that her eyes rolled around in her head like a pair of dice
or that she sometimes frothed at the mouth
when the wind blew too swiftly upstairs
but anyone could tell you
that she was tacked together with much artistry
that all her ornaments were of a kindly proportion
and as firm as some grandfathers handshake
Its true that her speech was a bit of a horrorshow
but are we so far removed from civilized thought
to believe that such trivialities are to outweigh her better qualities?
never have I met a more accurate counter of lima beans
or a more formidable opponent in the game of checkers
you must also not discount the fact
that this girl of only 16 was ripe with both the stamina
and endless endurance
to keep me in a continual state of disrobement and cardiac abandonment
for days on end
but eventually all the good times
came to an end
one afternoon we had gone to the grocers
for some salmon filets and coloring pencils
when quite by accident, upon checkout
I forgot to collect her from the magazine rack
and boarded the bus home alone
it was only after several hours under the sun
that I realized my little chicken was lost to me
Its true, id been indulging in the sauce again
and after this mishap I vowed to myself
never again would I stop drinking hard liquor
until i found out
what ever happened to poor little donkey
It has been 5 years to the day
and I have never held my promise to shame
for I know that one day
I will love again

The End

ROTFLMAO
You got me laughing so hard at this I need to run to the bathroom. Should I say congratulations, you've done it again?
Chicken, donkey, or....
Steven, no matter what, you never fail to get my attention.

This is wonderful. Has humor, but with a sharp edge of hard-life. (and to think the title almost scared me off) I should have known better with a poet such as you.

Yes indeed.
