A year has gone by, since we first called your name
And welcomed you into each heart.
Twelve months of joy and delight in your ways,
Enamored with you from the start.

Your first smile, your first word, your first patty-cake,
These now are all part of your past.
But the wonders awaiting in your second year,
Will certainly out do the last.

Shirley Temple would have envied those dimples.
Movie stars might long for that face.
You're more beautiful by far in a diaper
Than they in their velvets and lace.

Darling Hannah in this, your very first year,
You have lived with unbridled verve.
We adore you and are wanting to bring you
The wonderful world you deserve.

Joyce, this was absolutely delightful! What a wonderful poem to mark Hannah's first birthday. This will be treasured always, I'm sure. Just lovely!

Beautiful Joyce. My nephew was born on Jan first eighteen years ago. Instead of writing a first year poem, it is a graduation poem for him. This was beautiful Joyce. *s*
