~*The Day We Learned To Sew*~

I couldn’t find the eye.
Your Mom smiled as she gently
         took the thread and needle,
and pulled it through for me.
I said I was left-handed and nothing worked!

                        ~*~

I can still smell the cinnamon buns we so
patiently waited for to smother in butter.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
Two girls, one’s hair almost on fire, and
the other a stack of yellowed straw,
So eager for a first sewing lesson.

                        ~*~

We were eleven, going on twenty, and
today was not fast enough to
                get us to tomorrow.
Youth did not stop our inquisitiveness,
We had to know it all, feel it all.
Always seeking more knowledge of life.

                        ~*~

Hidden in your pocket was the red lipstick,
        today's excitement tickled our souls.
Remember how we giggled,as we planned it all?
We told the lady at the store
             your Mom sent us, remember?

                        ~*~

We were going to dress up as a model and ballerina,
I had taken two of Mom's bras for us,
and a simple box of kleenix would turn
           our inquisitive minds that day
into a frenzy of trouble to come.
Our futures were made that day, funny how life is.

                        ~*~

That was the day we took that needle,
and pierced both our hands in a pact.
We pushed our hands together,
until life’s blood flowed, and meshed,
            as finally one rivulet,
               flowed announcing our proclamation.

                        ~*~

Together two hands held, one so freckled,
one of alabaster, making a bond for life.
Sworn that day,
with a hug, we were friends forever,
             and ever, and ever.
The day we learned to sew.

The beauty and sincerity of your emotions expressed so eloquently touches my heart to the deepest levels.  The precious gift of friendship sustains us throughout our lives...and at times we find a special bond so strong that it carries over into the other side...I feel that in this, and I know that special gift of friendship will live forever.  Thank you for touching my heart so tenderly, Sharon...you are such a special lady and a cherished and treasured friend!
Hugs, and much love to you, dawn

This is so sweet, Sharon!  Wonderful write and presentation.  This brings back memories of my best friend and I growing up.  We got into a lot of mischief back then, but we always had fun!

Lone Wolf: Us too I tell you, a ton of memory writes are yet to come! I am so glad I took you back to those memories they are so precious.

Shadow974: Mend that fence and do it fast, as you just never know, in a whisper they are gone!  Thank you for reading this.

Mysteria~
And in the stitching ...
many memories are secured to the quilt of forever friendship.

Beautifully tender, my friend.
You knew I'd love it.
And .... I do.

Mysteria, you've sown a blanket of love in this tear jerker.... The voice in this piece is like an angels melody, reaching beyond the clouds on its way to an angel's ear. I know she is smiling down rays of beaming love your way ..... as she picks up her needle and starts quilting all the good times you've had. Your   speaks lovingly.   ((~.~))

What a wonderful nostalgic piece Sharon...
this is penned as vivid as a Life magazine cover by Norman Rockwell.
A tender moment of innocence and friendship captured in ink.
very lovely memories, thanks for sharing them with us.

Well Ladies... I suppose if I sewed, and if I were going to have a quilting bee, you four and Martha would definitely be on my table of happy little quilters!  LOL...I never learned how to thread the needle that day and to this day the air gets blue if I try, however, Willow stitched quilts to die for, now there might just be a memory there too! Thank you all for putting up with my memories they are so vivid right now.

This is magnificent!

It unfolds the memories beautifully and powerfully vivid.  Thoroughly enjoyed the read.

And, Mysteria, these vivid memories are so very important right now in the healing from this loss. Mourning is the balm to soothe a life.

I once read a response you made to another poet here at Passions, who tells stories similar to these....how much you wanted to be able to do them as well...

my dear, you do them QUITE well....

Sharon, this was a very enjoyable read...  "Vivid" is a very good word to use here.  If this were a short story or even a novel, I would read it enthusiastically, for your passion for life flows through your descriptions and recollections in a way that could surely be published.  Look forward to more "pictures from your album".

Virginia: I know, I know, and I have to see them and write them, thank you.

CPat Hair: I am glad you enjoy my scribblings.

Lady In White: Yes, I remember that! Well, I suppose you need memories to write about sweet lady, and it flows.  And these can not get out fast enough.  Thank you.

Mark: I really appreciate what you wrote in your comment, as I am really trying to collect these and then decide what I will do with them, and maybe the poems could become a little book, thank you.

Saunni: Thank you for your nice compliment.

This is so tender and an enchanting glimpse into the world of 11 year old girls.  You didn't mention all the blood spots on those first pieces of work! At least there were on mine.  I never could wear a thimble!

Victoria: I am truly hoping this series will do just that - bring back memories, mend fences of friends, and generally, just make us stop for a minutes and appreciate those we loved than and now.  Thank you and I adore your work by the way.
