Visiting Earth on a Guest Pass

On A Tiny Planet

Birds crisscross down there;
bird shapes of no specie at all,
backlit by the water glare.
The sky is twin shells, their edges all akiss,
and the noisy one below no bluer
than above. Looking west this bluff
is a tiny planet, too small
to hold the ache of a crowd;
today I need a tiny planet
for a tiny time to be alone on,
its curves all rounding down to sky
and the limits defined, one bluff
with green and blue and birds,
always birds for the motion of them.
It is so much easier than
being alone on a big one.

I'm liking this poem so much I hope I'm the first to respond.

While we were criss-crossing the country miles this last weekend to visit the various cemeteries, and sitting in the back seat, as the front seats were relegated to the son [driver] and mother, I was watching the countryside, and there were several times where I saw the shadow of medium and larger birds' bodies upon the ground...in flight...and wondered about the poets who might write of birds...and nature...and noticing the little things that make us feel better when we get a chance to read what we didn't have time to think about.

So thank God, you're a poet.

Thank you God, for this poet.

Ed...I am reminded of "The Little Prince" sitting on his tiny planet...do you know that story?  Loved this line, "The sky is twin shells, their edges all akiss,"  Lovely imagery, my friend...with a feeling of sad yet seeing so much beauty.

Loved, needed (as you know, seeing that you read and responded to Office Politicians) and devoured your poem - hope I have left some of it for everyone else to read!

I think I must go and find myself a tiny time in a tiny planet in my indigenous forest garden before I go into the office war zone this morning.  Thanks for the idea!

I enjoyed everyone's responses before me and particularly Sunshine's - and Martie - that was exactly what I thought too about The Little Prince's tiny planet - thinking right now of the days that he was sad, when he would have to keep moving his chair to keep seeing the sunset.

Oh Yes! I think we can all use "a tiny planet to be alone on"

Will you rent it out by the day or week? Would love to go there. martyjo

is a tiny planet, too small
to hold the ache of a crowd;
today I need a tiny planet
for a tiny time to be alone on,

It was hard for me to decide which lines to focus on... these or the last two. *S* For woven with imagery that's pure art, they define the need for escape from a world that's overwhelming... and sometimes overwhelmingly empty.
As Sunshine said... Thank God for this poet, for his pen... and for a tiny planet that's likely to get very crowded as we all vie to visit. *G*
Superb write!!!

~ I like how you put that, and I understand the sentiments ~ for I too have had moments like that. Here's my small planet that I'm willing to share with you ~ at different times!  FlirtyEarth

Introspective and contemplative ~ and beautifully scribed!

Sounds like the Amazon

And we destroy everything ourselves, then tell others "we know best" and we are right, no one has destroyed for so long or in some much depth than us
