Dank fumes soothe my lungs,
the birds are chirping
looking for a morning meal
after their morning shower

The sun now beams in radiance
illuminating vapor left from the clouds’ dance
Misty eyes gaze at misty trees home to
scores of animals starting the workday
the fauna gather and greet pleased with
the damp, cool countryside
the flowers, now full are enjoying their cigarettes
relaxing contently, the animals, the flowers and I

Are wondering where the spectacle is
where’s the spectacle in the sky that
invigorates my heart
and rejuvenates my soul
causing them to leap with the frogs
and soar with the robins

Sunlight emerged through the clouds
to join the gift of the gods
but where is their product?
where is quintessence of color?
Where’s my rainbow?

putting my cigarette out and starting my workday
saying farewell to the Earth’s creatures
and bidding life forms luckier than I well,
on their search for brilliance

I only hope I’ll find my rainbow
before I punch in
my heart needs invigorating
and my soul rejuvenating.
