To Bed

My pillow is life’s bosom where I lean my heart to weep
My coverlet are twining arms that rock my pain to sleep
And in the purple shades of night, reflections softly spin
Into the dreams that brush a wistful thought across my skin

The night is like a mother’s breast that nurtures my desires
The room is like a trundle bed to which the soul retires
My body’s clothed in moonlight and my eyes are star’s retreat
Beyond the window, dreams inscribe the pathway of my feet

But here beneath my pillow, is a whisper gently pressed
A memory or two of nights when love was softly blessed
I’m wrapped in shadow’s silent peace, that only night bestows
In downy shades of indigo, I find a sweet repose

(But not tonight. I'm up at 3:30 writing this)

This is so beautiful, Liz. I love your poetry.
I'm still up, too, though it's only 2:36 where I am. LOL
Still time to go to that nice soft bed. LOL
Hugs,
Ethel

Soothing stuff. Reminds me of a poem I used to read to my kids..I think it was called Winkin, Blinkin and Nod. I loved that one too!
