Last Time With Papa
By Larry Chadwick

“Dad, do you trust me?
I want to take you for a ride.
Now that Ginger’s gone,
I’ve got so much bottled up inside.”

“Son, there is nothing I’d rather do,
For I too have such a broken heart.
It causes me a little bit of fear,
But I’d rather we were not apart.”

My generous cousin loaned to me that day,
His great big bike, he thought it would do me good.
I had so much grief I had to get away,
But somehow my papa always understood.

So we roared on up the road,
To the top of Snoqualmie Pass.
Though time was not an issue,
It seemed we got there mighty fast.

And on our way back down the mountains,
Snoqualmie Falls we also had to see.
We stood and stared into the abyss,
Thinking of Ginger, just my dad and me..

When we left that place,
It was raining cats and dogs.
But in our frame of mind,
All that mattered was being on a hog.

Larry C,
Wonderful poem and pictures. Don't think I could have gotten my dad on a hog. But I did have one years ago.

Yikes, that's some BIG bike! And one beautifully inspiring poem. What a special time it must have been for you and your Dad. The trust between the two of you is inspiring.

Our son has a smaller bike and you couldn't pay my husband or me to get on it! We may have to rethink our decision. Thank you!

I love the waterfall picture; it's magnificent. Where is it?

Hugs, Marti

Larry, what a memorable "Last Time With (your) Father". I have lost so many loved ones, and it has made me so appreciative of the loved ones still in my life, that I try to treasure every moment I spend with them. Those times together, I try to never take for granted. I remember their parting words in telephone calls etc.---never knowing if those will be the last words I ever hear from their lips. I recall the last words I heard from many of my loved ones that I have lost. Actually, "lost" is not the appropriate word, for they are not lost, they have just taken a different form and are still with me.

This picture of you and your dad on the motorcycle warms my heart. What a blessing for each of you to have had this special time together before he went to keep Ginger company until you are all reunited.

Love & Light

Sue,
Thanks. I could not have managed knowing it was the last time. But having that last time now means everything. Thank you again.

Sy,
I knew you were a cool guy. But I had no idea that you were that COOL! And thanks.

Marti,
Well, we talked about the fact it has risk. And right after Ginger's funeral. But...we decided to be careful. (It's all the other idiots that scared us!)

And for my dad it took a lot of trust. Snoqualmie Falls is off the freeway on the up to Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascades North East of Seattle. An old family stomping ground that we hadn't visited in decades. And thanks Marti so much. Hope you reconsider with caution.

Linda,
So you indeed know how fragile life truly is. Can't say I had that information. But we lived as if we knew. How wonderful now to have all those loving memories to draw from.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support.

Martie,
Oh good. You know the family album blah, blah, blah thing! And thanks.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Noah,
Aren't you starting to get worried? And thank you again for such kind thoughts. Always.

I love waterfalls... whether they're in pictures or soaking my skin. *S* So when a poem tears my attention away from a picture as lovely as the one you posted, it's gotta be good. *G*

This is so very touching, Larry. *S* I can barely get my Dad into the car with me... and I just remind him who taught me to drive. *G*

Hello Larry,
I'm probably the newbie in the 'family' as of now.   But in any case, this is my first time on the boards and I really enjoyed your poem.  So much emotion, and a wonderful looking hog.  Thanks for sharing!
