But I Promised
Part 3 of the trilogy

Take down the stars that shone for me
I can’t bear to see them shine so prettily
Their incandescence seems to hurt my eyes
I need the darkness now to shield my cries
I promised you that I would not weep
And that promise I do intend to keep
But right now my eyes can’t take the light
And I have need for the cloak of night

Put a blanket of quiet over the restless sea
I can’t listen to it meeting the shore eagerly
The waves seem to gush with delight
Crashing fervently with majestic might
I need the silence to swallow my sighs
To say that’s only sea spray in my eyes
Yes, its salt water, that much is true
But I promised I wouldn’t shed tears dew

Hold back the sun just for a little while
I don’t think I can face the sun’s warm smile
Let me wrap my soul away from daylight
And hold onto the cloak of blackest night
I need a little while before I face the day
To linger in dark before the night fades away
My promise hangs heavy on my heart
Oh it hurts too much to see you depart

No one knows more, how foolish to promise you
What now seems impossible for me to do

Marsha

Marsha~
I haven't seen parts 1 & 2 yet, but I did enjoy part 3.
This is very beautifully written, and I could
feel it as I read.
Very nicely done, my friend.

Shame on you, Bal! *G* Marsha's poem is so wonderful... and I was contemplating how much truth she wraps up in that last couplet... and then I read your dig at Toe and the grins popped out in spite of myself. LOL

This is simply fantastic, Marsha... Even if I'd never lost anyone or dreaded the time when I might, it would touch a chord deep inside... As it is, I can't quite stop the tears. Wonderful work!

Mushy,
This is a perfect closer to this trilogy. Reality intrudes on even the best of intentions. Very touching collection which is already in my library and will be enjoyed for many years to come.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Marsha, this is also going into my library. This is so well written, and brings back painful memories of when my husband died years ago. If I hadn't had all my friends and family to help me, I don't know how I would have made it.

Then, God sent my loving Gary to me. Even though I feel a little guilty sometimes because of my love for Gary, I know in my heart that my deceased husband would want me to have this wonderful love and to be happy. He wouldsn't have wanted me to go through the rest of my life alone, without the special love that Gary and I share.

Thanks so much, Marsha for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us.

Marsha
that was very well writen. it brings tears to my eyes because i recently lost someone close to me. the one thing i always loved about poetry is that it evokes emotion and you did a wonderfull job at that.

I agree with the rest, It is a wonderful piece of poetry. I can't imagine where you got the idea for it all, but it works
