Inside the shadow's shadow

Ginger cookies wrapped in plastic-
Her yearly Christmas gift.
I can still taste them on my tongue,
And still my mood they lift!

Granny's ginger cookies,
I smile just remembering
How the family chattered excitedly
While around the sweets assembling.

Oh, Granny's ginger cookies!
How I long to smell the scent
Of ginger and brown sugar
Drifting through the vent.

Strange how memories are made
By an aching heart and soul.
Did Granny bake those ginger cookies?
The answer I shan't know.

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.
