The morning came to me in greet
and found me with shy eyes
a fluttered lash of wing in me
so I, the virgin, poured my bath.
Oils and salts and mineral
and ointment in my hair
candles spoke in flame of reach
vanilla tongue
of foreign speech--
blue heat churning before noon--
I hummed church bells splashing chant--
I braided ribbons into strands
and brushed the rest of mane to shine.
I glossed with glitter cinnamon
trying not to lick my lips
I waxed my lashes with the melt
of the pillar that I'd lit
and wept into a puddle--black...
then I threw my doubt away.

I tossed blanket over couch
and opened windows for the breeze
and fluffed the pillows for my head
and lay there, silk, in silk, on air.
As I laid a feast prepared--
fruit and cheese and cold crisp ale
on the scarf I'd tossed across
the table, at my fingertips.
not hungry for a nibbling
but for the meat of poet's voice.

My minstrel came a-wandering
a minstrel of the charioteer
holding tight a four-beast rein
I played bow upon the strings
taut with his intensity
as horses of Apocalypse
begged the road for more.
I finger danced to every word
as in his silences I heard
the master masons secrets told
words of blood in chalice kept
and all the ebony of me
transforming ashes sparking gold.

A blue-eyed devil playing host
dancing on a wire's glee
M'lord, my love, the holy ghost
the mesmirist of poetry.
An impish muse beguiling in
a beckoning of pose of word
Then he spoke the holy grail
and told me how he did love me.
That love was not a thing he learned
but remembered as he yearned
the scent of some forgotten land
lingering upon his nose
teasing twitch before the change
ever leading him astray
he thought
until our fingers twined.

I was the ingenue of play--
I was the star of balcony.
Rosepetals in kiss of feet
on that day he read to me,
his lady
I defined his love...
and I? fell helpless
in betrothe
a virgin to the truth he spoke,
just waiting there in lock of mind
until he turned the key.

Forever now from just that day,
I light a candle of annoint
every day at noon I pray
and beg for just a chance
to return the gift he gave
as he gave his all to me
dancing, naked,
on a wire
that stretched across
a canyon's breach
turning desert death to green
by gift of such a memory
in promise of reality
that every day
could be like this...

I am amazed by your talent

turning desert death to green
by gift of such a memory
in promise of reality
that every day
could be like this...

what an incredible write
such vivid beauty expressed in words
I will look for your writing in hopes that just a little will rub off

Thanks all...I'm glad you all enjoyed as I worried that it would be a tedious read...I guess because when I sweat over the writing, I feel like it's going to show in the reading. (And maybe it did for some, dunno...) But some of 'em just pop out there, but this one just clung to the walls of me (ew, what a visual, Karen..grin)

Thanks again for taking the time to read and comment, as this'n is one of those dear to my heart writes.

Oh my.  I think this one will have been one of the best poems I ever read.

This is so much here, I can't even comment, except to just repeat what Sudir, (and everyone else), said.

Enjoyed, Hugs, Pat
