King of Yesterday
©2002 C.G. Ward

oh yes, he reaps an ounce of pain
for every kindness drawn
from the depths
- of emotional independence.

and there, in the darkness of indecision,
     he once traded happiness
     for sovereignty over Solitude.

call it a whim,
call it a lark;
life only paints it out as Loss.

now,
deep in the shards of feted recollection,
he rules from behind iron-bound battlements,
presiding over the power of failed solidarity.

     his subjects, Regret
     advisors, Despair

still…
he’ll take the throne each time,
a jester, the fool,
     holding court within memories
     of a recurring dream;
     chasing lost hope
with the tenacity of a convert.

see,
Tomorrow never exists,
for the King of Yesterday.

  My, haven't we been busy...

thinking, thinking... Then: late for work. So, more later...

Who's the hot guy you convinced to sit for your pic?

Now then, I have always idealized with the notion in that old Blackhawk song "Like There Ain't no Yesterday" - but if there's no yesterday, what then would you be the king of?

Look to the furture bro - be the King of tomorrow! No wait, then what would I be?

Good to see you writing again, btw.  You don't do it near enough.

let's try this again - last time i had too many images in my post (will have to watch that, have a bad habit with the smilies, i do!)

crazy - could be... we have a way of altering the world around us to fit our perceptions... could very well be.

alice - i'm honored to be placed in your library! (i've been in worse places )

nan - and you still play with the played words... uhmm... yeah. (that's two smileys, i'm counting now...)

ocean princess - i don't know, but linda told me he looks like a lost puppy dog or something like that...

Mike - well, i figure i'll be reigning in hell anyway, so you can have king of tomorrow... i'll be happier in my realm anyway... better health plan. ps - tell linda for me: phhhhtttthhhtttpppttthh

floria - thanks for the time and kudos.

peace

So that would make you king of Forever then.... sigh, as always I'm caught shortsighted.  Might as well start kneeling now Iguess.

Good call on the "dread-enmeshed" thingee too, btw - appreciate you lookin out for me.

And I guess this is the way you paint a journey...

Nice feudal imagery you got going on here...which, to me, automatically assigns this a dark, melancholic tone...and which is contrasted by such words as whim and lark...

I like that - was that intentional?

Heavy last lines there C...interesting concept, in a temporal kind of way...
