I walk the path alone
Feeling my way
Through the darkness
Slowly around the void
Where dreams and reality
Seem to somehow coincide
In a semi conscious state
That puzzles me

The road is tough
Even grueling at times
I try to persevere
Yet my attempt seems futile
And unworthy of praise
Although somehow
I manage to carry on
To face another day

Will this be the dawn
I find a fork up ahead
Giving me a choice
At last to venture
In a new direction
Or will it just be more
Of the same thing
I face already

I pray each night
To be given an option
That I may exercise
At my discretion
Hoping against hope
To end the pain
That dwells within
My decimated heart

Yet somehow
It beats on
In spite of trials
And tribulations
Which seem to follow
My every movement
Haunting my dreams
Distorting my realities

My vision becomes blurred
The world spins wildly
Out of control
Helplessly I try to stop it
But I am not strong enough
The forces are too great
I am thrown to the ground
Left to lie there in a heap

Broken bleeding swollen
Exhausted from the fight
That fills each day
From sunrise to sunset
The battle rages on
Despite fatigue
Lack of ammunition
And utter disappointment

But wait a moment
Against all odds
The dream lives on
Amongst the sin
Next to my sorrow
An ember flickers
Ever so timidly
Within my breast

It suddenly ignites
Burning with the intensity
Of a million candles
Illuminating the altar
Of my wretched soul
Cleansing the stains
Restoring my honor
Renewing my faith

Until
    at
      last
          I
           am
             whole
                 once
                    again

SEA . . . Glad you liked it.  just have a lot of emotions to deal with lately.  Thought this was a good way to work them out.  Thanks.

1slick_lady . . . Yes, no matter what there is always hope.

Kathleen . . . Thank you, neither are you.

Amy . . . Thanks my friend.  It is not often I take someone's breath away!
