Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Perhaps with Mars a one way ticket away
and our sister stars hundreds of light years afar;
living longer will become inevitable,
a near immortal necessity
to get from here to wherever else out there.
Not that we would become invincible or infallible.
Could we resist the seduction of power
to emulate immortals in foreign lands?
Or would fear slaughter us upon arrival?

I would have a little of that fear inside of me, perhaps, most likely, but overshadowing that fear would be the insatiable feeling of a grand adventure and wondering what the females of Mars looked like . . .
