Don’t Tell Me That I’m Old

Don’t tell me that I am old
For I am as young as you
In spirit if not in flesh
And thank God, my mind is true

When you stop and chat with me
Don’t shout into my ear
My music isn’t deafening
Like yours is my dear

Don’t treat me like a child
Because my hair has turned to grey
Don’t notice all my wrinkles
And hastily turn away

Don’t dismiss advice
That I sometimes give to you
I’ve been down your road before
And some respect is due

Don’t roll your eyes to heaven
Or laugh behind my back
If I can’t keep up the pace
For its energy I lack

Don’t tell me that I’m old
Though my years left are few
My spirit is still the same
And I’m as young as you!

Thanks "late".  Which gives you plenty of time to compose some witty or interesting things for us night owls to read while courting the sandman!

Im 27 years old Beatrice, and i'd rather talk with the wiser. Loved the poem because you pointed out the obvious. Just because your older doesnt mean your dead.

Ms Beatrice..

Nice write to shake up the generation gap.  Bravo!

Many times, when there is 'Snow on the Roof"... there is still a 'passionate, raging fire in the furnace'.  >;-)

Thanks raiders...(my late son-in-law was a rabid raiders fan...as for me...GO GIANTS!)

Don't know how wise I am...but I do like to pontificate every once in awhile!

Beatrice,
Proof age is just a number! I thought all Raiders fans were rabid.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Bea, truth is,
I don't know how
young people see me...
for when I look into
their beautiful eyes,
I see me....

in great disguise...

Thank you for a wonderful poem...
and it is probably time
that I act my "age".

Oh, 47, forever!
