With many a delay and oft departed lie
I climbed up th’ mountain of faith
Singing “O Lord! Let me touch you!”
Yet on this mountain-side I met his followers--
they said to me “what are you trying to do!”
And I sang “Oh Lord! Let me touch you!--
then I’ll be made whole!”
Behind I heard me voices singing too
”Oh Lord! Let me touch you!”
they were searching for him too.

halfway I saw the fig tree withered
Then I recalled his words--
"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain,
'Go, throw yourself into the sea,
' and does not doubt in his heart
but believes that what he says will happen,
it will be done for him.”
And I sang “I hath faith Oh Lord!
lead me to you!”.

And just before the top stood a stranger
and he said “I know a shorter way to he”
And been Blinded by the faster route
I asked “Oh stranger, tell me how”
And he smiled in his knowing--
for really he was a sinner covering
the truth from me,
He said “First you must follow me”
and he led me back down the mountain
and he told me to look up;
”How hard ye to hath faith--
that you cannot reach the top
stay at the bottom where sinners be!”

I rested in my thoughts whilst looking up
and started making my way up the mountain-side
The stranger said “What are you doing?”
but in my knowledge I said
“I shall not be taught by thee”
I climbed up th’ mountain of faith
Singing “O Lord! Please forgive me!”
Yet on this mountain-side I met his followers--
they said to me “That was what you were meant to do!"
And I sang “Oh Lord! Please forgive me!--
then I’ll be made whole!”
Behind I heard me voices singing too
”Oh Lord! Please forgive me!”
they were fallen too.

And just before the top stood a stranger
and he said “I know a shorter way to he”
But knowing now of the truth I said
”Everything comes the hard way”
And on I went to the top where he stood
and he said to me “You are forgiven!”
And I stood next to him looking out
what a beautiful sight over all.

I enjoyed this piece.  Climbing the mountain of faith isn't for the faint of heart.
