trips are for taking
charcoal man stands on the street
with a gone heart
shoofly ways

she pushes sweated hair
from her forehead
peers out the kitchen window
loneliness too near the bone

she grabs her old skillet
cooks up a mess of
he’ll be back
leans from the door
mouth to the air
searching for calypso lip
purple tip
in a lapel
sniffing
craving patchouli
cigar smoke
and charcoal arms

Aw  That explains why I seen him on the corner...smokin' reefer, drinkin' Knotty-head gin and singin' back and forth 'tween "Nobodys Dirty Business" and "Keep My Skillet Good and Greasy".
Loved it !   As always

I like this one too.  I think I have seen both of these people recently - and you painted them with words so well.

Brilliant...the combinations of words were so strange, but perfect.

Hi Toe! Thanks for your reply.
Stranger does sound like he’s
been around the bayou a bit.
Reckon?

Thank you LeeJ.
I am very envious of Stranger’s
work.

Thank you for your reply

So very real, Kate.  Your characters walk out of the poem into sunlight and shadow.

"charcoal man" has always been one of my favorite people in PiP.  I have been thinking about him a lot and I have been missing him ~ so I am looking him up to say "hey".

xoxoxo to charcoal man and his lady.
