The Greatest Battle Never Won
By Paul Wilson

The fiery beast raised it's head slowly above the trees
as creatures of the night scurried into the shadows
They’re searching for the last fragments of security
as the beast blazes trail across clouds of white pillows

Cool night breezes evaporate into steamy clouds of heat
with passing of each minute upon dew covered ground
Mothers now gather a feast from the earth for their young
before heat of the coming day leaves nothing to be found

Higher and higher beast of the East continues climb
into the sky above mountains and grandeur of West
The lord of darkness fights back refusing to release
it’s hold …but can’t repel march of time it’s no contest

Darkness in the East is gaining upper hand on beast
while those in the West now simmer in their losing fight
Shadows become highlights of color and artistry
as cool breezes encompass creatures of the night

We’ll fight another day this battle with no repose
beast of the East makes ready for another attack
Join us great father of the North in this heated fight
thrust your Wintry blast upon the Sun make him turn back

Ice and snow falling from Winter’s sky leave casualties
of today’s battle with more to be fought… more will die
Please join us beast of the East in our battle against
Father of the North…shine your ray’s on us from the sky

Sometime you are our enemy…sometime our friend
fighting this battle against nature we cannot win
We are the victims of their wrath we will never win
today will you be my enemy... or be my friend
