Perusing Donne

And having read of Donne’s grip
on Death
and by his own word ripped
away the stalwart treachery,
thereby strip
Death of its awful stench,
I stand, tripped
In Memory of those still missed
[and another gone]
who would’st stand here,
to once again feel sweet kiss
On them in sweet and kinder thought
and deed
I read once more the words Donne brought,
again, and again, and yet,
still heed.

Revised,
reposted, for a friend.

Lord,  but these are powerful words, emotion
filled...pull at your gut words...

Thanx KJ....I can relate to this too well.

Oh Death,  you sightless foe.  What message
do thee bring?  I stand quivering, shivering
in wait of thee.  For thy hand is nigh to my
shoulder as the warmth of the air now falls.
And the others before me know thee well, their
whispers bade me to leave.  I shall not,  for
though the darkness looms nigh and thy laugh
echoes my ears,  my cup is yet drained and
my children's laughter awaits me,  not you.

I love the poem and its power, Donne's poetry and the fact that you reposted this for a friend.  You must be sick of hearing me saying how well the name, Sunshine, suits you - but the fact keeps hitting me in the face - no, not hitting me in the face, but wrapping me with sunshine around my shoulders.

We never stop missing our loved ones.

Donne would applaud your perusing, dear Sunshine. It's a great write.

Just today I suddenly had such a wish to CALL my mother and though it was weird, I felt I had to call her by her name ... and so I did, as if she was at the other end of the flat ... Calling her with a strong voice gave me such an intense feeling of joy, yet the silence brought tears ...

Love and hugs.

Yes, special words for, and by, special people, should be read again and again ~ and heeded.

this one touched my heart with a tear.
I'm sure Donne would be proud of the write
and reference. Death be not proud!
Great write.
thanks for sharing,
