EUPHORIA
21 June 1982

Sometimes there is infinitely more
intimacy and ecstasy
in
two heads raised to follow
the flight of a heron
than there is in
the highest moment
of passion.

Why?

I keep deleting my responses because none of them are worthy of your poem!

:notworthy:

(I cannot believe you think me the better poet--you write poetry, I just tell stories)

I'm with Linda here, you translated the unspoken.

Magick!

Mary Oliver tells the answer...here at the end of her beautiful poem.

*"...this trailing of the long legs in the water,
this opening up of the heavy body

into a new life: see how the sudden
gray-blue sheets of her wings
strive toward the wind;
see how the clasp of nothing
takes her in."

Because I see all of nature as sensuous-intimate, even ecstatic- the "two heads" cannot help but look up..because at that point they are as the great bird, their own wings are open, striving toward the wind...just before "the clasp of nothing" (-something they do not understand, or need to) takes them in....just before they themselves, fly.

Their bodies, are as the herons, heavy with desire, about to open up, like the birds wings, to the possibility of new life...

(*From-Heron Rises From The Dark, Summer Pond.- by Mary Oliver)

Thank you for the beautiful poem...

I love it, but it must be a personal preference as to what is more euphoric. It sent a calm over my mind, very good perspective.

Thank you Serenity Blaze.  There is no chance in Hell, Heaven or anywhere else, that I could tread on the poetic tails of your coat.  I am stunned that you don't see that.  The trouble is, you just WRITE your poetry.  You should READ it as well.  Then you would see what I mean.  Thank you Serenity Blaze.

RedStoneEB  Thanks for liking it.  Do you mean translations of Chinese poetry, or written in Chinese?  If you mean the latter, I am so envious of you.  I love languages, and wish I had time to learn hoards of them, especially ones with different alphabets.  That is why I did Ancient Greek as part of my BA degree a long time ago, and taught myself the Russian alphabet and (book-)pronunciation out of a book to give me a break from studying for an exam (also a long time ago).

Oh, ice, ice, ice, ice, ICE!  What an absolutely exquisite poem!  And what a beautiful piece of prose from you too.  I have copied your response to re-read many times.  As it is expensive for a South African with a Pay-As-You-Go phone (with the other kind you can have a 7-rand-a-call-in-call-more-time) to be on line, I would really appreciate it if you would email me the whole poem if it isn’t too long and therefore a hassle to send.  Oh, and thank you, too, for thinking my poem is beautiful!

Thank you so much, iliana!

Thank you, too, byski.  I am glad it had that effect on you.

Thank you, Jody.  Yes, wasn’t ice’s response exquisite!

Thank you Enchantress.  I am glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you Kate.  He was a very special person.  Still is, I imagine.

Bump to the top.
Beautiful read.
Images I see through the words are undiscribable.

From Earth Angel's reply and all the others I agree EMPHATICALLY! Most beautiful. Have felt the same but never could put it so idyllically. martyjo

Thank you kindly, froggy.  (I just love your nom de plume, (I've probably told you that before) being animal-batty!)

Thank you Jessica.  I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you, Martyjo for your kind words.

You are all most kind.
