Selling Your Home
8 August 2005

Sixty-five years
within this gardened home
dripping with peace,
and bird song,
hallowed with memories
of which I am ignorant,
blessed with lessons
I have yet to learn,
echoing with songs
I didn’t hear you sing,
thrilling to the laughter
of children’s voices down the years,
and happy barks long silenced
amid reverence and tears.

I am just an estate agent
buttering my daily bread
from the sale of your humble heritage

and you are just my clients
entrusted to me recently

but
the ambiance of a serene history
wafts through your house,
warming your walls inside and out,
touching your treasures with late afternoon light,
washing over your lush barefoot lawns
and bright nodding flower beds
and exuding welcome from the folds
of your faces both,

and I am honoured
and touched
by your charm
and the simple grace of your home

and awe engulfs me,
as I feel your courage
to walk down your garden path for the last time.

Owl

You show such sensitivity in this poem, towards people and feelings.  If I were to sell my house (where I've lived for 35 years) I would want someone like you to be my agent.

Owl, not only are you wise, but you are also observant, loving, sensitive, and compassionate.

I was filled with emotion as I read this poem from your seeing, sensitive heart.

You have such a lovely soul!

Hugs with love,
EA

This one almost brought me to tears Owl. I was born and raised in this house for seventeen years. I am still living there today. But my house is up for sale, and it's crippling me knowing I have to leave my paradise. Wonderful poem. Your best yet, Owl    - Eddy

Thank you Martie for your kind words!  Believe me, I would LOVE to have somebody like you as a client.  We are mangled by many of our sellers and buyers.  However, there are many nice ones too.  In the USA you have one agent for the seller and another for the buyer, so I'm told - but here one agent deals with both.

Thank you Earth Angel for your kindness.  I don't know if I deserve all those lovely things you say, but I would like to think so.  I wish more people in my daily life thought so too.

Eddy, your response did bring me to tears.  I have lived in my house for 22½ years and I plan NEVER to move out.  I know (well, in as far as another person can) what you must be going through.  I wish you the strength to take the best memories, but to be able to move forwards to make your new home, whether rented or owned, a real home to wrap your heart in.
