reasons to be grateful - reminders to myself

1.
It was just a little booth
In a crowded breakfast shop
I don’t even remember
What I ordered
Of the menu’s offerings
For I feasted on love
And drank in your gaze
Knowing, at last
Nourishment.

2.
When memories are too much
And the here and now
Is mere painful subsistence
Anticipation
Softly seeps into my thoughts
And soothes - because
Some things started
Have no finish
Only completion.

3.
The milkshakes would never last
Through the long drive home
And we’d tease about
Turning around for another
Even as we moaned
Our over-consumption.
There is no final slurp
When the last of love is reached
No matter how much we use
Another sip always awaits.

4.
With hope foreign to my existence
I silenced a questioning heart
Preferring ignorance
To disappointment and damnation
But you answered the unspoken
And gave me a word
Providing reason to breathe
Permission to believe.

5.
With no suspicion it would be the last
We simply frolicked in loveliness
And wrapped ourselves in the warmth of love
Soft flakes of snow on Christmas Eve
Were miracles dusted on upturned faces.
In this season of sorrow
The memories of magic
Contrast and comfort.

It is easy to count burdens.
Blessings are harder to remember
When life’s fabric is unraveled,
And a pen probing prevents
A wound from finding safety of scar.
Gagging my muse
Is smothering myself
But diversion for the determined
Is vital for sanity
And so…

I write reminders to myself.

Your heart-warming rues and rambles are reminders to me as well, of my own reasons for being grateful. Thank you, wise and grateful Ruth!

In 2006, may you be making wonderful memories for your tomorrows! God bless you, sweet friend.

Love,
Linda

MyDearLady~

You may never know just what this has done for me ...

'When memories are too much
And the here and now
Is mere painful subsistence
Anticipation
Softly seeps into my thoughts
And soothes - because
Some things started
Have no finish
Only completion.'

Bless you for the word-beauty of you,
for your friendship never-ending
and for validating my heart in the remembering~

I love you to pieces~

You came up with 6 today for your gratitude journal and I am still working on #4 but it comes eventually, just have to remember.  The beauty of this book is that on a dry day, I draw from the memories.  I wish you also that Ruth.

A once gagged muse can be a dangerous little
so in so....careful...

Enjoyed this,  so much good material within
the lines,  each part so accurate.

thanx Suthern..

suthern,

You did it to me again, Lady!  You found those tears...  OK... I did manage to head them off at the pass, but just barely!  Another for the library!  You wrote this perfectly!

Martie: Thank you! *S* I drove through the smoke of one Monday... fortunately, it was in an unpopulated area... but the flames licking at the asphalt were unnerving enough. *S*

EA: He does, my friend... with people like you. *S* I know I have much to be grateful for. *S* But... I'm sure hoping 2006 is better. *S* Thank you so much!!

Marge: And I love you, dear lady... I'm so glad this touched you... thank you!!!

Mysteria: And there are many dry days, aren't there? *S* Still... I feel that remembering someone only in sorrowful tears is denying all the things that made the love to begin with. *S* So I try to concentrate on the gratitude... Thank you!!

Ericc: Thank you so much!!! *S*

beaniebaby, beaniebaby, beaniebaby: I'd give you a big WHACK for those hiccups... 'cept I loved reading your response over and over. *S* Thank you, my friend... so very much... If my arms could reach, they'd be hugging, not whacking. *S*

Magnus: Oh, she's not gagged... and she'll have her wallow... probably many many times over... that gal's an old hand at seeing the glass more than half empty. *S* But... she'll dang-well remember the smiles, too... or I'll hide all her pens and paper... and refuse to take her middle-of-the-night dictations. *G* Thank you very much, my friend! *S*

miscellanea: You humble me, dear lady... I would have sworn it wasn't even a poem... to have it so well received touches me deeply. Thank you so much!!

Ruth, you are such an amazing writer.  Please don't gag your muse.  Though this brought tears to my eyes, I find it so very beautiful.   .....jo
I hope 2006 will bring joy back into your life.

Ratleader: Thank you so much, my friend... it is those quiet moments that get me through the chaos... and give hope for better days... For this to earn a wow from you is truly an honor... thank you! *S*

iliana: I can't gag her... she kicks. *G* But seriously... her needs and mine are at odds right now... she wants to pour grief onto the page... and I need numb. *S* So... I tell her she can either compromise or lose her devoted stenographer... after this many decades together, I know she's not going anywhere... however grumpily she accepts my terms. LOL Thank you so much... and yes... we'll hope for 2006. *S*

beaniebaby: And I thank you for that smile. *S* Big hugs, my friend...
