It feels like yesterday when you were brought home,
So tiny, so cute, so loveable,
Beautiful brown eyes,
Looking up at me as you sit in my lap and lick my face,
Puppy breath and all,
I would sing you to sleep.

As you grew older our friendship grew stronger,
You would wait by the door on Fridays for me to come home,
I would need windshield wipers for my glasses from your kisses,
At night you would sometimes lay in bed next to me,
Sleeping, I would have my arm around you as if I was holding a teddy bear.

As more years went by we went out for walks less,
But you would spend most of your time around me in the house,
Your final day at home I cherished it with all my heart,
That day and the days leading up to that it seems like you never left my side.

When your collar and leash were put on for the final time,
You sat in your corner in my room and stared at me,
As you got into the van and I watched it drive you away to the vet I cried,
I knew there was a tiny chance you’d come back,
But the reality was I knew in my heart you weren’t going to be back.

The van came home,
I was listening for the sound of your paws,
I was hoping you’d make there way down the hall and to my room,
Instead I heard nothing,
Mom came to my room and told me you were laid to rest,
I cried hard,
I want you back girl, but I know I can’t have that.

You are my very very best friend,
Thank you for growing up with me for nearly 13 years,
I will NEVER forget you.
