It's worse than you may think-
Inside the girl
there was no prize
Take it all away:

Seek no refuge in my  arms
I am not the Wizard-
Behind the curtain
there was no one
There's no place like here..
I'm lost now and my companion is asleep.

Make a wish
Please come again
She closed her mind and saw the light
Frantic game he rolls the dice..
Almost made it, pick a card
Any card will never do..
You're too sad,  I'm done with you.

Ear to ear and flashy teeth..
How did you know I was so deep?
Make up your mind
It's much too late
Leave the porch light on for Fate:

He never came, and now she's mad
Let it out and then we run
Grief out ran her from behind
The victor deserves cheap wine
My cup overfloweth with expire
Gather round the festive pyre

Ring around the empty girl
Inside her is the world..
We'll miss the train to Misery
Quiet all the noisy jabber
She fell off the wagon with such a clatter
Broken now
He took the key
“Come on honey, take off with me.”
Wander, wonder, leave a trail of crumbs

.....No one thought to find her.

Such a vivid portrait of a forlorn state of mind.  One can only sketch so well when the feelings run deep.  Hugs  Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

A very complex write Tinker.  But there is a prize inside.  I'm positive of that fact.

Enchantress~

Lady ... there is 'something' in this one
that touches the tender fabric of me~

I don't know why I saw this -

'Make a wish
Please come again'

-as this ...

Make a wish
Please come true~

But ... I did~

Thank you for sharing the gentle sensitivity in this compelling read~

enchantress,

"Wander, wonder, leave a trail of crumbs"

Could have copied the entire poem, but this really spoke to me!  Thank you for sharing the little girl lost.   It is mind boggling to me.  One for the shelf, for sure.

Nancy - lots and lots of powerfully descriptive emotion here - will take several readings to get inside but it beckons one to feel all of it - very very well done - Paul

this was so sad, though, not for the girl, as she deems her gifts precious...(wink) but sad for those who were to self imposed to stop and take a look and listen...know the feeling well my poetess friend, but....

this part

Seek no refuge in my  arms
I am not the Wizard-
Behind the curtain
there was no one

and who said so, lady, you are a magician of words, life, sound, a wealth of success and more...
