FROM BIRTH TO DEATH

The Government thinks it knows best
Wants to tell us how to live our life
They even want to make decisions
That should be between a Man and Wife.

Their morals and beliefs they think
The rules they feel we must live by
They want it to start before we’re Born
And even take control of how we Die.

If they don’t think it’s right for them
Then it must be wrong for everyone
Some must think they are a God
And that their Will, shall be done.

Well, I’ve got a news flash for them
The "common" people have sense, too
And we don’t always need some bureaucrat
To tell us what we need to think or do.

When they think they are above the Law
And can force the People to bow down
Before their so-called ivory towers
Then their walls will tumble to the ground.

To believe in something is just great
And it may work for them just fine
But when they shove it down our throats
That’s when they have crossed the line.

And some of them should really practice
And be True to Morals that they Preach
Maybe Learn some real Integrity
Before they start to feel it’s theirs to Teach.

It’s supposed to be, "We, the People"
At least, that’s how it was meant to be
But if we keep letting them take our Rights
It sure won’t be, "The Land Of The Free".

This is a prime example, Abe, of doing the things we so easily put off...a Right to Die; Living Wills, etc. Our poor Terry is caught inbetween the will of humanity and the law of the land.

I would never wish to be placed in such a world.

It makes one think, however, of what the bigger picture is really all about. I have not ever stopped to think that there is more behind the picture than we, as the public, might know. I guess it is the "I Am" part of me, the curious part, and the stubborn part, that wish to know all of what has gone on behind the scenes that has not been shown.

The "jury of the world" has a right, now that the media has taken hold.

The more we know; the more dangerous we, as a whole, become.

It is simply a fact of truth, and consequences, isn't it?

You, however, require a firm applauding, as does Denise, for bringing this to the forefront of our senses. God willing, all of them that I know will know exactly how I wish to leave this earth....

and as a conclusion to this "outrage", I will only say, God?

Let Terry be strong enough to decide her own outcome.  Amen.

Not so much the right or wrong or truths or untruths in the story.  It's that we are supposed to have a rule of law and the law keeps speaking and the politicians keep trying to bring THEIR will to bear.  Seventeen or so Judges and six Courts with all the facts which none of us know have already given their rulings.  I think that is very dangerous when the politicals feel they can make their own rules and laws as they go.
Too, I have thought, what if Terri really (though I don't suggest it so) can hear and understand and is actually trying to say that her Husband speaks the truth and she hasn't wanted to exist in that state for all these years.  How much more horrible that would be for her.  I do know that I would never want to "live" like that and have my living will stating so.  People of any age who put it off are possibly placing their loved ones in the same circumstances as what is going on with Terri and her family.  The Fed needs to stay out of OUR business, in any case.

Enjoyed the sentiments although I think there a little late...sure seems We The People has become Us and Them.Keep on ringing that bell and I'll continue my support of those efforts.

Live like it's your last day...
Dance like nobody's watching...
Love like you've never been hurt...

You feel your rights have been violated,  Abe, because the Congress has decided to utilize the 14th Amendment to ensure that Terri's right to life and due process has not been violated and have decided not to sit idly by while she is starved to death, possibly against her will?

The Federal government interjects itself all the time into the goings-on of our day to day lives with a myriad of legislation regulating just about everything. I don't find it particularly egregious that they would step in to give someone's parents a hearing before a Federal judge with their daughter's life in the balance.

Only one judge has reviewed and ruled on the FACTS of this case. All the others have only ruled on the law as it pertains to this case, ruling that her parents didn't have standing before the law regarding the situation, not the facts, not new facts, so it is a bit misleading when you hear reports that nineteen judges have all reviewed the facts of this case, because they haven't.

The only thing that Congress did with their legislation was to allow her parents standing before the law, and given them an opportunity to have the FACTS of the case looked at and ruled on by another judge.

This case is unique in that there seem to be many improprieties in this case, such as the husband continued to remain guardian of Terri despite the fact that he forbade rehabilitative therapy shortly after receiving a $1 million + jury award for that specific purpose, stating to the jury that he was devoted to his marriage vows and would care for her for the rest of her life. As soon as he got the check he immediately refused any therapy, against medical advice, and all routine dental care, even the brushing of her teeth. And such as the husband having a girlfriend even before he filed the malpractice suit in which he alleged that his marriage vows were of utmost importance to him and that he would devote his life to her care. He had to be talked out of moving in with her by his lawyers at the time prior to the lawsuit going to court for the sake of appearance.

Shortly afterwards that relationship broke up and he became involved with another woman and did move in with her 10 years ago (with whom he has two children), which is when he suddenly remembered that Terri said she wouldn't want to be kept alive artificially (which even if she did say that, a feeding tube wasn't considered an artificial means of life support in Florida at the time.)

Testimony was given at one hearing that Terri did not agree with the parents of Karen Ann Quinlin taking her off the respirator when she saw a movie about it on TV eight years after she was taken off the respirator (she actually lived another ten years after being taken off). Her parents and friends testified that Terri did not agree with the right to die mentality. But the judge discounted their testimony.

She also has not had her own attorney in the State proceedings, contrary to Florida Statutes, which is a violation of her due process protections. The Judge who has always sided with the husband, and presided over the proceedings appointed himself as her Guardian Ad Litem. Totally improper by any standards. She has not been afforded the mandated, by Florida Statutes, rehabilitation and care that she should have been given. She has been literally warehoused by her husband for the past 12 years. She was placed in a hospice, fraudulently, against Florida Statutes, when she was not terminally ill with less than six months to live. She has so far been there for five years.

Evidence exists that her husband may have been responsible for her being in the condition that she is in. A bone scan taken revealed a history of abuse. The husband kept the medical records sealed, but the bone scan came out in Discovery prior to one of the hearings and the parents have been trying to get an investigation into the matter since 2002 when they first discovered the 12 year old scan, with no success, from the police or from the judge. Also, her injuries the night she was admitted to the ER were notated to be consistent with strangulation. If the husband is responsible for her current condition, he certainly shouldn't be allowed to be her guardian. Their marriage was a stormy one, her family saw brusing on her at times, and she spoke of divorcing her husband with her girlfriends and told her brother shortly before the 'incident' that if she had the guts she would divorce him. It's a very real possibility that she is in the condition she is in because she found the guts that night to tell him that she wanted a divorce.

Terri is not terminally ill. She is disabled. She is not in a PVS state as the husband, his attorney and the media say. And there are thirty plus board certified neurologists, some who have personally examined her, who have submitted sworn affidavits to that assertion. They say that just by looking at video of her it is clear that she is not PVS. And she has never been given a PET Scan or an MRI to validate the assertion by the husband and his attorney that she is PVS. The husband has forbidden any testing at all. She is not even in a PVS state according to Florida Statutes, Florida's own definition of the condition. She responds to her family, she attempts to communicate, she can sit in a chair, she can feel pain. The only reason to pull her feeding tube is to cause her death because there is no disease or illness that will do it in the near term.

If I am ever in Terri's condition, I can assure everyone that I would not want my husband who is living with another woman, who has refused any care and rehabilitation to further my improvement, who refuses antibiotics for infections, who refuses to allow my window shades to be raised, who refuses family photos in my room, who refuses, at whim, to allow my parents and siblings to visit, who refuses to fix my wheelchair, or allow me to be taken for a stroll outside in the sunshine, and who will benefit financially from my demise, to be the one who decides whether I continue to live or die.

I have not delved deeply into the issue
of Terri.  But I will say this.  We are
fortunate that we can freely express our own
opinions.  And I applaud you both for the
thoughts that you have taken time to express.

Thank You.

I have been struggling with this "We the people" for awhile now.  After all it is the people that elect the politicians and the judges, who make the decisions we may or may not like...so why are we electing leaders if we are not pleased with their choices...James
