I decided I'd go out of my way
To treat a woman nicely today
Because I'd heard the radio say
"It's International Women's Day."

Held open the door for a girl and, hey,
Expected she'd have something kind to say,
But she scowled and said "Get out of my way!
It's International Women's Day.

You've got no right on any day
(Much less International Women's Day)
To treat a woman in such a way---
You've made me so angry!  I cannot say."

Well, I was crestfallen, needless to say
That she'd respond in such a way
To my intended courtly display
on International Women's Day.

She was just about to storm away,
But I pleaded to her, "won't you stay,
And explain why I shouldn't have acted this way
on International Women's Day?"

She told me about the ancient fray
of woman and man, and how, today,
on International Women's Day,
we put our differences away.

So now I've got it down okay:
You've got no right on any day
(Much less International Women's Day)
To observe International Women's Day.

Heh-heh-heh.....I had four doors dropped on me today...all by women. That's a bit bigger percentage than usual, but not much bigger....That's also somewhat more meaningful at the place where I work, because every door is pass-carded. You don't just pull it open -- if they drop it and it gets closed before you get to it, you have to stop and unlock it before you can enter. Dropping a door in that situation is directly rude, not just thoughtless.

So I celebrated too, the way men usually do -- by shrugging and opening doors for myself....and holding 'em for anyone coming along behind me, no matter which sex.

I am woman. Hear me roar. LOL.
But I still know how to enjoy the opening of a door.
My womanhood has never been strongly attached one way or the other to such acts of chivalry or just plain kindness.
A very enjoyable read, dear LP.

a very interesting write...international women's day celebrates the beauty of a woman's entire being...sad to say, some people get too carried away by feminism that they end up being sexists, losing the true meaning of what it is to be a woman

There are some things that go too far...
and in this case, it wasn't YOUR chivalry...
it was her rudeness.

And at her young age...that's very sad.

"Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend." Albert Camus.

I have always liked this quote; especially in situations such as you penned so poetically. It suits both man, and woman.

Brian

Some woman are rude, just as some men are.  I guess today wasn't your lucky day.  But, try it again...don't be discouraged, if it had been me, I would have smiled and thanked you.   or, held the door open for you!

There are women... and then there are rude females. *S* It definitely seems you ran into one of the latter.

I think of chivalry as courtesy... and courteous actions only lessen someone when they're absent! *S* But then... I also hold the door for others... of both sexes. *S*
