the empty sugar packets by my spoon
look like loneliness
i look up from my coffee
and you look up from yours
like lightning
and we jump.

your feet hit the ground like a heartbeat
as you move to my table
it's 3:56 in the morning
and i forget why i couldn't sleep
but i'm here now
"betty's all night diner"

the waitress is sleeping at a table behind me
you sit down
the air is silent
but there's no need to talk
words would be complicated

insted you drink your coffee
and i drink mine
and we breathe in the sleeping world
it feels like were the only ones alive
and then..

your hand is in mine
and it feels like borrowed time
this moment
this moment that should last forever
would never
i knew that,
you knew that

but you're still holding my hand
it feels like we own time
and we have no names
we aren't anything
we just...are.

cool

My diner experiences at that hour were always bleary eyed and often concluded with a dine and dash.

Chelsea, that's a heart held in a hand moment. Don't you wish you could stop the clock, if only for one whole day?

Chelsea, loved your words this morning

with it comes a memory or two

love this line:
and we breathe in the sleeping world

"it feels like we own time"

yes

That's it exactly.

(love your title, too)

The title brought me in and I wasn't disappointed.
I felt like I was there.
Excellent...

I love it..
I know what you are talking about.
Being the insomniac that I am, and the
nearness of a 24 hour perkins, I could
see this happening.
