The abyss
is deepest,
where memory would forget

the rhythm, legato,
the time, a slow dream
of innocence sealed
in the deep blue hollow
of bruises,
and in the matted lashes
of tears,

rain swells the night
in long, black passages
that burn for an eclipse
to sink over the body,

deep inside a hard autumn
seems to go on, a sad,
inexplicable autumn
deepens into another kind of despair,
and there, are learned
all the terrors
fear can teach,

and of the deaths that inhabit me,

it rains, a real cruelty
bound in the silver gauze
of early evening,

innocence sleeps its leagues
and fathoms wrecked
under an old mystique
in stone, more so
than cedar heals

these perennials of longing
weigh down the limbs, lonely
as the miracle of tenderness
twists, where the abyss
is deepest.

sigh

Note to self:

never listen to sad holiday songs while reading babygirl.

sigh sigh sigh frigging sigh

it's dark down here in the abyss, lady
but my you do sing pretty.

Yup that darn autumnal abyss has seeded in my soul many a time, and you wrote it well.  Dark, deep, and delicious write.

This season is about love, let's spread it around generously.

Lessee, what have we here...

A figure chilled and huddled against the farthest wall of a damp-glistened alley.
And looking up, can pick an individual raindrop from among the throng and watch it fall forever, before joining the dance.

Very cool, Bg!

Wow. Can't say much because my favorite lines will change if I think about it again. Great write. Yes... it's a deep and painful abyss.
