Given

I sit, on realities throne
This gift of life this flesh and bone
A given time a given place
To occupy a given space

A kingdom and the rule of one
Until the time and space is done
With many gifts of fantasy
Of agony and ecstasy

A place of wonder and of awe
A place of dream a mind of store
Reflections of a life’s unfold
Defection of the young to old

A changing from a grime to prime
A note within the rhyme of time
A thread within the human weave
Conclusion of a minds conceive

For all this lies, when all is done
Within this kingdom made of one

Defection of the young to old.  That line is great and so is the poem.  John lennon once said "One day you are seventeen and the next day you are forty.  I liked it.

Couple of things about this poem...first, my mother's maiden name was Givens [so the title to draw me in was a "given" ] and secondly, there are times in my everyday speech when I remark that something, being "fairly sure" [I won't say "absolute" or this could end up in the lounge... ] is a "given".

Then of course, there is the body of the poem...

which caused me to chuckle, because I DID get this absolute image!!!

Enjoyed my chuckles bright and early, Sy.  Thank you!

Sy, dear, dew drops are crisply frozen...
leaves are dry and packed with frost
the ringnecks, they are scurrying away
hunter's orange will scream life's toss
all for trophies that will gather dust
as in my mind the camera sways
when jeweled bird, frightened, flies
only to plummet into a pool of rust.

~*~

Leave it to you to bring back my muse...

I meant to come back to reply to your question, but I had just been at the kitchen window, watching the hunters leave for their quarry as I poured coffee.

and too soon, the season for deer will be here, as well.

Take the magic carpet out, go for a ride.

A rhyme king upon wisdom's throne,
this cadenced castle, is his home.
A Randy dragon guards the gate ...
blowing kisses to the maidens in wait.

A line, a rhyme, a couplet, a verse ...
We love to read as dragon and poet converse.

LOL

The more I read this write, the more I find in tune with the wisdom and wonderful song you have written.  What is given, is a priceless gift indeed.
