I’m a plain Jane kinda girl
Words like meat and mashed potatoes
Set upon the table with home baked bread
No Coeur don blue with hidden treasures
And a fancy French name
No enigma under glass
Or exotic fruits set aflame
Just salt and pepper simple
Though I wish I had more spice
‘twould be lovely to be a gourmet
A connoisseur of composition
An author of lyrical ambrosia
A Ventnor of the finest rhyme
But alas – ‘tis not so
As I sit down to my burger and beer
And sometimes . . .
A hearty casserole
Upon a checkered table cloth
For Joe and Jane and Jack
But for once,
Just for once--
I’d love to set forth fine dining
Upon linen cloth
That set mouths to watering
And minds to wondering
It looks just beautiful –
But what the heck is it?

Yes,  know well of this...so often I see
a write that makes me think...I wish I could
write like that...and too often when I
attempt...it just doesn't look right...and
I go back to hamburgers and beer...

Yes Wranx - exactly - perhaps rather than the masters, we are the impressionists and contemporaries - maybe a slavador dali or picasso rather than a rembrant or m. angelo-

Thanks for your reply and hugs to you -

This poem is a poem readers goumet delight..
was delicious....yum!
An old saying is that the way to a mans heart is through his stomach (something like that)

But it is ovious that  another way is through the words of a good poem that falls on his eyes...

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

Ah...yes. I feel this way about a lot of things, not just food. Give me simple over complicated! Enjoyed this very much Susan.

You are making a mouth water here, especially with the home baked bread.
Enjoyed this.
