Not related to a poetress called Hope nor inspired by her although I think she is very talented.

This is about Hope from bondage, that doesn't have to be tied physically.

Dumb hammers pumped away
Pumping

12 a girl
Father’s last failed attempt
Mother creel on her back
Building her round in Shields
Fresh cod
For hours and hours

In the kipper factory
Stacking
Developing muscles
That gave you pride
When the smoking was kippers
And the money to your mother

The Iron League of Economics
Is produce children
As they die
To cover
For those
Who have died

My mother escaped
And then faced
Those who attacked
At every opportunity

When did this world
Change
