Resurrecting Memories That Should Have Stayed Dead

Pictures thought long gone
surfaced the other day,
resurrecting memories
that should have stayed dead.
Pictures that put unnecessary strain
on a heart
long since quietly settled
and in love with Love
sitting in her chair in the other room.
blissfully unaware
of the turmoil
a couple of pictures have caused.

I lay them down,
shuffle though the drawer
and smilingly pick up another . . .
we both have our memories I see,
and neither of us is unaware.

I gently tuck her memory
back where I found it,
softly shut the drawer
and am elated to know
that tremor I feel,
isn’t for a picture I thought long gone,
but for Love,
sitting just beyond the door.

Jimmy, this is certainly one of your finest
yet.  It is tender, touching...and so much
more.
