Listening to every heart

Take Care of Each Other

“You are all you have, and you will always only
have each other…you must take care…”

Mother’s voice sounded round in whisper and I felt
Dad’s smile, as I held my brother again, hugs long
in coming, for twelve years is too many, and
never shall it be that long, again…

“Oh, I’ve missed you so,” I hear the talk like me, with an
“oh,” while over a short two days we assimilated lives,
a “twin-ship” of sorts, not quite 24 months apart in age…

we are so alike…and so different…and so akin ~

somewhat dizzy with love, I listened heartful,
this, my brother, sharing, caring, and I thought back
to other gatherings, when we were diverse enough
with no likeness in our lives to converse then…
even when there was a kinship to share, both time,
and responsibilities divided us further apart…
both of us nosing those grindstones too closely,
nurturing our families with give and take…

Now, now it became our time,
we delved headfirst, he so like the dolphin
he use to emulate; me, I believe, a light he always felt
he could follow, even, sometimes guide…
just as day leads to night, which beckons day again…

the spirit of our lost home, though, wound round in our
individual talents – he more talented than I; me, talented
differently than he…for he writes lyrics AND music…
and I just note changes, feelings, thoughts, and love.

He played his guitars for me as he could;
I took over his kitchen with my niece’s blessing;
he sang for me, with what he had, and I sank
steadfast into my soul a fact, not a promise,
a fact, that I would be close to him again, soon…
sooner if at all possible…
for just as I hear my father lead me to poems,
he perceives our mother fingering music in his dreams,
so truth remains, in all ways, that we shall always
Take Care of Each Other.

Karilea,

   "Take care of each other"   As it should be...  Multi-talents seem to run in your family.  Glad you found "home" again.  Very nice!

Got me right in the center of my heart. What a wonderful piece.

Love your dog; an American Eskimo I'm guessing. Our Bernie is part Eskimo. Her mother was a full blooded one. She got out the cat door and met up with Pal, a Fox Terrier/Jack Russell. A real rouge of the streets!

And do it now,  never stop....always take
the nose away from the grindstone and tell
him you love him,  that you care...call,
write, email...never let up...for too soon
you both will be beyond these years and
it becomes so much harder then...don't just
let certain family occasions drive it.

The guitar is a symbol of family also...having strings, sometimes out of tune...I liken that to when the family is far apart and the harmony that once was, is blurred by distance. Apparently you are aware of this and are trying to retune, regain the melody....That makes the picture of the instrument very well chosen...

Karilea,
The best times spent are with family...and sharing that time with us. Wonderful to read:

====================================
for just as I hear my father lead me to poems,
he perceives our mother fingering music in his dreams,
so truth remains, in all ways, that we shall always
Take Care of Each Other.
===========================

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I recently spent a week helping my brother with a project he could no longer do alone.  Thanks for so ably phrasing thoughts that men rarely think, let alone say.
Well phrased.  Ken

Goodness Karilea, this is just beautiful, a real tear jerker, brought tears to my eyes and a thud in my heart.

by my illicit exquisite dream
but I can't really wake up

Sounds as though you two had a wonderful visit. And isn't it perfect that you two have found a dove-tailing of lives and interests?

Heh, my brother and I have yet to bridge that gap, sadly.

Hope all is well, gal!

Hugs,

Corinne
