Listening to every heart

Quiet Victories

Reuniting with friends out of sight
literally over decades, is more revealing than not,
if one truly takes note, noting all
instead of nothing, sitting back and taking stock
of the ones voted most likely…

but it is in reuniting of two or three
ever very bestest buds,
who bled hearts as forever-friends,
whose secret giggles are still tucked into training bras
under Peter Pan collars, and who,
after losing touch for God-knows-what reasons…

Find their deepest wells again in each other’s
eyes, laughter, and heart-hugs.

We appreciate without speaking that some
have been through too much to share
all in one taking; experiencing almost too much life
and death, depressions and successes,
little feet growing into gowns and tuxes…
that hundred percent of giving, less than
fifty in taking; bearers of bridges over troubled waters,
survivors of divorce/s, and cancer/s, and lost lives;
so we just smile, nodding, our lips
quivering at their corners, small wells
shimmering our eyes…
making forever assurances of not letting go again…

So during this reuniting of several long ago
friends, a few of us sit back and just
listen intently; we smile, knowingly,
watching hands talk, studying eye crinkles
as they fade away under yesterday’s guiding lights…

realizing that to go to cherished friends now
in the highlight of those who are glowing,
we could still never say it all, in one sitting…

better to keep to ourselves for the moment,
hold on to our quiet victories, knowing that our ever
very bestest buds have returned to our lives, and
that stories will unfold to keep us warm
in memories’ time.

Karilea

This was simply wonderful.  True friends show a deep love and respect for one another that never fades over the years.  Your words portrayed that so well.  I hope all is well in your life.

Take care.....Sue

P.S.  Your picture is lovely and your dog is gorgeous!

Sunshine,
The alarm clock began bleeping before I finished reading your poem, consequently, I've lost total concentration.  I giggled at this verse, remembering those training bras.  I'll try to stop back in the afternoon to read the rest and comment again.

I liked it too, Dave...thank you.

Martie, all I can say is, I try, as do most poets that we know.  We listen, we learn...then we do what we do best...we share.

GS, I'm with you with Dixie.

Thank you, Bernie!

babygirl, you're too cute...

Lauren dear, thank you!

misc'e...I've grown quite fond of you, and love reading your indepth messages and knowing that others are hounded by such things as clocks...thank you so much for being a part of the Passions family...

DS, gentle pleasure...could be a middle name, y'know?  Yes, you know.

Maree, you always make me smile...thank you.

My two Sues...I do thank yous...

Dixie, I'll do my best...never to let you go without reading material...
