LITTLE BOY BLACK AND BLUE

Oh, Little Boy Black and Blue,
Who was it that did this to you?
Who raised a hand at innocence,
Just to proclaim their eminence
At a child's expense?

Was this your loving mother's psalm,
This stormy song beneath your calm?
The one who nourished you from birth.
Were you more trouble then you were worth?
Oh, was it her who did this to you,
Little Boy Black and Blue?

Was it your father, that loving soul?
Did the alcohol cause him to lose control?
Was his patience tried and taunted
By the boy he never wanted?
Oh, was it him that did this to you,
Little Boy Black and Blue?

Oh, Little Boy Black and Blue,
The autopsy confirms it is true.
You were sodomized and strangled.
You were beaten, broken, mangled.
How you must've screamed in agony
As bloodstained hands brought you more misery.
Oh, was it someone you never even knew,
Little Boy Black and Blue?

For baby "Joshua" - 1993

Dang Michael this was good! So sad, but very well written! 'Tis a tragedy those poor kids that loose their lives in such a way!

My God Michael!!! That was so sad but so true and it should scare people enough to wake them to what's happening to their kids. I am in awe of your talent.

Michael, let the Darkness flow freely and fill my cup to the brim with the sweet taste of my own bitter tears. Rock on into the Night!

You've taken an almost sing song, Nursery Rhyme type poem and created a horrible image! And it works! Great, simply great!

Oh my, I have a little brother who is about the same age baby Joshua was. It is terrifying to even imagine the thought of anyone raising a hand to that precious little boy. Your words even made me cry .

I have seen many poems on this subject, but this is by far the best one...

Well thanks a lot Michael for bringing me out of my elated mood. (Of course what did I expect in the dark room?)
Well done friend, a sad portrayal.
