THE HOWLING

Standing all alone within
Hallowed chambers of the mind.
Echoes from darkness speak to me
Evils of the worst kind.

Outside I hear the howling,
The teeth gnashing at the gate.
The blood inside me churning
To a full-moon type of state.

In the shadows, daring
To streak naked through the hall.
I run, I gallop, on twos, then fours,
Giving answer the call.

Towards the window of blackness,
A cold chill shooting up my spine.
Fervently I launch myself
Over that never before crossed line.

I can hear the glass as it shatters,
The jagged edges raking my back.
As my brothers come to lick the wounds,
And then, to attack.

The principles are shallow
On smooth, steely white fangs.
The shrieks die in the dead of night.
The old church bell clangs.

Insatiable, inbred desires
Run the fever to high pitch.
From blood and claw and fang the law
Is settled in the ditch.

But don't think me too different,
Running the pack with no shame.
From the Darkness I know you can hear
We wolves howling your name.

I could not love except where Death
Was mingling his with Beauty's breath -
Or Hymen, Time, and Destiny
Were stalking between her and me.

I long to give in to my wildness again. Good reminder of why, thank you my friend.

I had to bring this back because of New Moon coming out tomorrow.  One of the most chilling poems of yours I ever read.
