there were fine lines
of distinction
illustrating her face
like colors of rank

one pressed in by trial
around her exalted
temple
and another
by the creasing
of  lips devised
in the sanctuary
of a thousand smiles

as light fell
on willowy eyes
the infatuation of her youth
beamed through
for eyes do not age

the soul does not
they would say
and I know not
whether to believe it

but

in the negotiating
of her elegant visage
it seemed at once possible that
Socrates was in fact
still Socrates
somewhere else

I almost felt as if I were sitting across from her...well done!

I would rather my words fall upon deaf ears than a closed mind...

Smile.

Oh yeah?

Try typing that in the Philosophy forum!

I enjoyed this much Reb--and indeed, priorities, yes?

Hey Reb, good to see you here again today,
gracing our pages with another of your
excellent writes. Another one for me to try to read
between the lines. I guess that's why I like your
poetry so well....it really makes me think.
Which is a good thing.

There is a little Socrates in everyone, I believe. Some hide it better than others..

I'd pass on the after-dinner cocktail if I were you

Dear Rebel, I enjoyed reading your "Cause"!
It appealed to both the Socrates and poet in me!

It always seems reading your poetry is like reading parts of a book. There is a larger story. I liked it alot.

Thanks all... very much -- I'll pass on that cocktail deer..

Juju-- many, many stories...

It may or may not surprise everyone to know that I wrote this after the death of Kate (Hepburn)... was originally going to be titled 'Dinner with Kate'.
