Threaded Breaths Lost Amongst The Desert Sands

Sunset defying words,
coming down
above the mountains south of Benson,
orgasmic orange
shredded lavender
rifts of periwinkle threaded
through the proof of purple sage
yellows flaming hot to white,
I know all the words of science
for this display,
and yet tonight I am not within reach
of thoughts any different
from the reflex chitter
of a rock lizard watching the transformation
of a living sky tucking itself into sleep,
wondering how we will keep alive
until the sun returns;
recent rains have left the ground engorged,
armored plants still bursting into bloom,
fading only in the desert chill to rest
perhaps for one more day of glory,
Oleander and transplanted Jacaranda buds
swelling in the shadows of a dry bed creek
as if hunting for the Ceres flowers
waiting for the moon,
huge Saguaro gesturing obscenely
stark against the failing light,
I am a traveling intruder
in a universe awakening at night without mercy,
where everything that lives
stings and bites and claws and fights,
not taking prisoners
with whom to share the glory
of sleeping with survivors in the day.

Awesome images, you really paint your words using every sense and involving a depth of emotion.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Not a place for for "pale" people (like me)

But? I needn't spend much time there to appreciate the very small margin for error it affords. (beauty does indeed beguile)

I would say: you do know the words...amazing imagery here

~~**~~
The sound of silence calls,
I hear your voice and suddenly
I'm falling, lost in a dream
The echo of our souls meet

hmmmm...yes and eventually you find yourself doing the same just to survive...and then you wonder if that is how they became the biters..

This gem "almost" makes me want to leave the ocean to go check out those luminescent skies over the desert... But then - Why do I need to do that?  I can just read your splendiferous words and ogle your great photo... 'Tis grand, sir ice...

You have just made me so homesick I could cry...By the way...As a Bisbee girl...those mountains are the most beautiful in the world.

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...

Icebox, no ofence intended, your sun down picture is nice, but it doesn't do your words justice. I enjoyed the poem, it a plesant image.
