They glimmer, sub-terranian, whose shimmer seldom shines,
their facets bathed in subtle glow of some un-earthly kind.
Though sparsely scattered they suffice to dissipate the dark,
reflecting in their crystal depths, a fire from a spark.

They fade the black to indigo, add luster to it's hue,
impart their warmth to cooler shades, enliven what was blue.
The spectrum feels their influence in unsuspecting ways,
to mine what lies within, there from, to place it on display.

A wealth beyond imagining, surpassing that of kings.
Refining all that's possible to brighten everything.
Quite gem-like in their rarities whose qualities we seek,
to sparkle with a clarity to each that is unique.

As each that is uncovered sheds it's modicum of light,
one senses it's inclusion, shining forth, however slight.

I enjoyed this. It flowed so nicely. The words sounded like velvet.
Thanks.
Liz.

ESP,
Thanks, personally, I was put off by the use of the word "each" in the last quatrain and couplet, it just didn't feel right. You know what they say, "Post" haste makes waste. Bad pun, going back to Bewilderment (hanging my head).

Dr. M -- this was a terrific poem.  I've always been interested in gemstones (what woman isn't?!)!
