A lady, they say, then you know you are old,
settled one day her mind far away
and began to unravel the mystery of soul
bit by bit part each long living day.

Her hands became stiff and sore to the core
unused to it all and how it unwound
to meander on ground right up to the door
and knot up in clumps once it was found.

It was fun she declared in a half-hearted way
for the joke that she shared fell on deaf ears
except for a few and the few heard her say
the night is daylight and the laughter her tears.

A lady, they say, twisted, gathered and kept
a mystery yarn hidden under her bed
for something to do when love up and left
and spirits descended to live in her head.

Her mind took to flight; curiosity won
but dismayed she groveled again in the sand
looking and searching for what’s left undone
to tie it all up with bows, ribbons and bands.

She winds to this day signing, they say
ballads and pop off tune till midnight
but when the clock chimes she changes midway
and writes in a book of olden day times.

A lady, they say, and I nod off to pray
forgive her for wanting her lover today!

not sure why you labeled this as "a bit of nonsense"...I love it, and I can relate well.

Hi, passing shadows.  Perhaps I added the "nonsense" bit so as not to be taken seriously because (and I quote) "what you experience isn't normal, you know".  It's comforting to know that someone can relate.  Thanks!

Helen~

'A lady, they say, twisted, gathered and kept

I find that to be an intriguing idea~

Love this no-nonsense penning~

Thank you, Marge.  What goes on in a head can indeed be most amazing!

Thank you, Martie, for again being here to read.
